The Dyson Corrale Straightener Transformed Our Hair Routine

For better or worse, I've been an avid hair straightener user for over a decade. As I've gotten older, I've learned more about caring for my thick, curly texture and traded in my cheap products for more high-quality ones. With that said, I'm very picky with the items I put on my hair. After one wrong move, my hair could revert to being damaged and frizzy, so if it works, I cherish it forever.

One of my favorite tools in my collection is my BaByliss Pro flat iron I've had for six years, so it's an understatement to say I've been in the market for an upgrade. I've been eyeing Dyson since they came out with their viral, coveted Airwrap styler, and I was ecstatic to see they came out with a straightener.

Dyson was kind enough to let me try the Corrale straightener. Continue reading to see what I thought about it—and whether you should purchase it.

The Brand

At this point, everyone knows Dyson is in the upper echelon of technology, from vacuums to air purifiers. Everything will be jam-packed with power, and they will last you years. I always say this, but I'm a sucker for modern designs, and Dyson is great for making discreet, opulent products I'm okay with leaving around my house.

The hair tools, in particular, have been made with innovative engineering to keep your hair as healthy as possible, despite using heat—more on that later. And the fact that Dyson has an entire page dedicated to educating users about using heat on hair makes me believe they genuinely care about developing a product that will change how the world views styling.

For someone like me, who uses hot tools at least once a week, it's especially important to have items that won't damage your hair and have a brand I trust will have my best interest in mind.

Where Can You Purchase It?

The Dyson Corrale straightener is available on their website for $499.99. You can also purchase it at Ulta, Sephora, Best Buy and Nordstrom.

The Features

First, let's get one thing "straight." The Corrale hair straightener is nothing like your average flat iron.

Dyson created this product with flexible manganese copper alloy plates to "gather" your hair, which leads to less heat with lower temperatures and ultimately prevents breakage and any other weakening of the hair follicle. According to their website, this technology cuts the damage to your hair in half.

Speaking of lowered temperatures, the Corrale also has a regulating system that takes note of your thickness, texture and length to determine a suitable level.

And the kicker—the Corrale straightener is wireless, so get ready to abandon the days of cords getting in your way. You can use the straightener for up to 30 minutes at a time (it varies depending on how hot your straightener gets), but it takes 70 minutes to recharge completely.

Since it has a battery, I instantly wondered if I could travel with it in my luggage. The Corrale straightener has a flight-ready mode that turns the battery off, which works for TSA regulations.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I've forgotten to turn my hair straightener off on multiple occasions. Thankfully, the Corrale straightener shuts off after 10 minutes!

Aesthetic-wise, the Corrale has five different colors, and all are sleek and gorgeous. The screen that displays your battery life is OLED for a pristine finish, and it actually makes a noise to let you know that it is charging.

Besides the straightener (of course), the box also arrives with a charging cable, a portable travel dock and a heat-resistant pouch.

My Experience

As with all straighteners, I used the Corrale on dry hair (though Dyson does have a straightener that you can use on wet hair). I like to section my hair into four quadrants. I have tape-in extensions, so I typically use one tape to decide the chunk of hair I will straighten.

I'm very lazy with hair styling, so I didn't mess with the temperatures, but I believe my straightener stayed around 365° the entire time. Usually, this temperature would be too low on other hair straighteners, but it was perfect with the Corrale.

There was a bit of an adjustment because I have had a tight grip on my straighteners in the past, and the Corrale is heavier than the average flat iron. It was easy to get used to the feeling, though!

Because they claim the flexible plates eliminate the need for multiple quick passes, I did one slow pass on each lock of hair. I feel like this gave me a salon-styled look, which I've never been able to achieve with a straightener before. Most of the time, my hair never looks that straight. After I finished, I had minimal flyaways (which could be the product of having slightly damaged hair).

My biggest issue with straightening my hair is that it's an entire arm workout. That wasn't any different with the Corrale straightener. But since it only straightens for 30 minutes—my hair usually takes 45 minutes to an hour—I gave my arm a short break to charge the flat iron.

When I was straightening my hair, I didn't feel like there was any excessive damage. There was no burning smell, and I didn't hear any sizzling.

The short battery life is the only disadvantage to the Corrale straightener. However, when I'm flat ironing my hair after a wash, I'm not in a rush, and when I'm doing touch-ups, it doesn't take me the full half an hour. But if I had to do a quick straighten, it'd be nice to know there was longer battery life.

Bottom Line

It's bittersweet to say, but I'm officially abandoning my trusty BaByliss Pro for the Dyson Corrale. I 100% believe that the Dyson Corrale straightener is worth the money, and it's thick, curly hair-approved.

As previously stated, using the Corrale was one of the only times I felt like I had the salon-straight hair I've been trying to emulate for years. It's nice to feel like I'm not damaging my hair as much, since I truly only had to do one pass through my hair. I'll probably be more willing to have guilt-free touch-ups on my hair throughout the week with less damage.

I really love the wireless aspect of the Corrale. I get antsy from standing in the mirror to flat iron my hair. So, it's nice to have the option to walk around without worrying about ripping my plug out of the wall.

And yes, I felt so luxurious while straightening my hair, which made the entire process feel less dreadful.
