Gorgeous Hong Kong Egg Waffle Ice Cream Is Our Latest Dessert Obsession

We've found our latest food obsession, and it's ice cream-filled Hong Kong-style egg waffles.

They're the signature item of a shop called Eggloo in New York City's Chinatown. Even though we're located in Los Angeles, we think a visit to Eggloo might be worth the flight.

These egg waffles aren't any old breakfast pastries. To create them, the batter is poured over a special kind of waffle iron full of spherical divots. As it cooks, the batter expands to create round, airy pockets. The result resembles bubble wrap if it were made of tasty waffles.

Eggloo's dessert waffles come in original, chocolate and matcha green tea flavors. Their menu also features savory pizza and Chinese sausage and chives options—though we don't recommend pairing those with the ice cream.

All waffles are made to order, and once it's hot off the griddle, the warm waffle is carefully folded and placed into a paper cone.

From there, it's filled with a scoop of regular or soft serve ice cream and coated in as many toppings as your heart desires. Toppings range from Fruity Pebbles to Pocky (placed upright in the ice cream like a couple of chopsticks) and drizzles of condensed milk.

Once it's ready, you can eat it with a spoon, bite right in, or rip off tasty pieces of the waffle to scoop up your treat. Honestly, we think any of the three options sounds good as long as we get to try it.
