ENHYPEN Explores a New Chapter of Love in Second Album, ROMANCE: UNTOLD

K-pop boy group ENHYPEN has opened a new chapter of love with their second full-length album, ROMANCE: UNTOLD. 

In this album, the group tells stories revolving around romance. From the lovesick honeymoon phase to heartfelt pleas to save a relationship, each track on this album illustrates different tales of love. The title track, "XO (Only If You Say Yes)," is a sweet pop tune in which the group vows to do anything for their lover if they allow them to. With ROMANCE: UNTOLD, ENHYPEN embarks on a new journey featuring brighter sounds, indicating their creative growth from their darker beginnings. We caught up with ENHYPEN and chatted about their sentiments toward this new chapter, current tour and artistic contributions below.

Sweety High: What's your favorite tour memory so far? 

HEESEUNG: I was thrilled to have the chance to meet ENGENEs worldwide once again through our FATE PLUS tour, and it was fascinating to learn about the cultures and savor the local specialties or cuisines of each city we visited.

SH: Which track from ROMANCE: UNTOLD is each member's favorite and why?

JUNGWON: "Paranormal." I tend to listen to songs imagining the performance to accompany the music, and this one gets me particularly excited about performing. I can picture myself and our members vibing on stage to this song.

HEESEUNG: "Hundred Broken Hearts." I really love the genre of "Hundred Broken Hearts," which combines old-school vibes with R&B. It's even more meaningful because JUNGWON contributed to writing its topline.

JAY: "Hundred Broken Hearts." The track draws a lot of elements and musical influences from the city pop genre, which I'm currently into, and I feel a strong resonance when I sing it because it evokes intense emotions.

JAKE: "Paranormal." It has a catchy melody that is easy to follow so it would be wonderful to sing it together with ENGENEs at concerts.

SUNGHOON: "Moonstruck." Its melody is really addictive, and I love the sensual and dreamy mood of this song.

SUNOO: "Paranormal." As we prepared for the comeback and rehearsed our performances, I found myself becoming more immersed in the song with each listen.

NI-KI: "Brought The Heat Back." From the very first time I listened to the demo, I knew this track would hit the spot for me. I was also very excited to see how the full performance would turn out. The choreography turned out to be incredibly energetic and perfectly suited to the song.

 

SH: How did it feel watching yourselves as actors in your UNTOLD concept cinema?

JAY: Watching myself act felt surreal, and I've been finding these new experiences, exploring new ways to express our music really enjoyable. If I get another chance, it's something I'd love to challenge myself with again.

 

SH: Your UNTOLD concept cinema allowed you to showcase your acting skills to ENGENEs. How did you prepare for your roles?

NI-KI: There were a lot of action sequences for this concept cinema, and I practiced a lot to exaggerate my movements and gestures to deliver a more dynamic feel on screen.

SH: What message do you hope to convey with this new album?

JUNGWON: Since this is the beginning of our new ROMANCE series, we want to showcase a fresh concept different from the ones in our previous albums and surprise ENGENEs with our sweet, romantic sides.

 

SH: Each member holds songwriting credits on this album. What is your thought process when songwriting or producing?

JAKE: We always emphasize this, but our greatest inspiration is ENGENE. So even when we're writing music, they're always centered on our minds, driving us to deliver our best. Only ENGENE!

SH: ROMANCE: UNTOLD marks the beginning of a new series. What can ENGENEs expect from this new chapter of ENHYPEN?

SUNGHOON: We hope ENGENEs look forward to seeing more of ENHYPEN's soft charms and our matured artistry as well. As this new series focuses on romance, we want them to feel those fluttering hearts and butterflies. We believe wholeheartedly in this album and are prepared to give it our all until the very end.
