Everything You Might Have Missed at the ENHYPEN ROMANCE: UNTOLD Showcase

by Tayah Fox

On July 11, K-pop boy group ENHYPEN held a showcase to present new music and performances from their second full-length album, ROMANCE: UNTOLD, for the first time.

Amid the Japanese leg of their FATE PLUS tour, the group took time to create a record-breaking, nine-song album. ROMANCE: UNTOLD reached 1.8 million sales in the first week, surpassing the group's personal record and setting the stage for the album's success. We had the opportunity to attend the showcase and preview the album before its release, and if you couldn't witness it yourself, here's what you missed.

Premiere of 'XO (Only If You Say Yes)'

"XO (Only If You Say Yes)" is the title track of ROMANCE: UNTOLD. The song stands out from ENHYPEN's previous releases due to its more colorful and endearing qualities. The title holds a double meaning, with the first representing hugs and kisses and the second symbolizing approval or disapproval. This double entendre demonstrates the group's charm and respect for their significant other, as they will not act without consent. The group also performed the choreography for the song, showcasing complex hand gestures and energetic moves that match the song. The members expressed their hope that this choreography would become a challenge for their fans to try on social media.

Q&A

After premiering their new performance, the group shifted to a Q&A session. Throughout the segment, the members emphasized key points about the album and the creation process. When asked about the direction of the album, Heeseung stated that they wanted to incorporate the theme of romance into each song. Each one reflects a theme of love and romance while exploring its different aspects. Other members Jake, Jungwon and Sunghoon emphasized their satisfaction with the album, expressing how it is a favorite of theirs and their confidence that the fans would love the songs as much as they do.

'Hundred Broken Hearts' Performance

ENHYPEN premiered another song, "Hundred Broken Hearts," that follows a slower tempo than an alternative R&B track. This song captures the boys' emotions while trying to avoid the end of a love that would result in a hundred broken hearts. The group's leader, Jungwon, participated in the creation of this track as a topliner, offering his vocals as a guide. The decision to showcase "Hundred Broken Hearts" demonstrates the album's diversity. As Heeseung stated previously in the Q&A, this song follows the theme of love and romance but illustrates a different aspect of relationships, in contrast to the title track.

A New Chapter

This showcase marked a new chapter in ENHYPEN's journey. As they dive into a more romantic era, the group vows to evolve as artists while exploring fresh sounds and concepts in the future. This doesn't mean dark ENHYPEN is over—it simply means a new sound will emerge from the group's forthcoming albums, blending darkness with lights and love as they continue to grow.
