thread beauty is a powerhouse Black-owned brand created with Gen Z, allyship and inclusivity in mind. The company was founded in 2022 by Melissa Butler, and since, has been working to improve representation, something Melissa relates to well.

"I truly believe that without representation, you are left seeking validation, and thread beauty shows up to validate the niches that were not being previously validated—especially in the color cosmetics space," said Melissa in a press release.

Since then, thread beauty has taken off, bringing face, eye and lip products to a shelf near you. The brand carries glosses, lip and multi-use cream sticks, as well as beauty tools for a completed look. The newly expanded "face it" complexion sticks collection features 26 shades to choose from. Beyond that, you'll find the commitment to color variety across thread's full portfolio, delivering something for everyone.

Collaborating With Saucy Santana

"Prior to launching thread beauty, we weren't seeing diversity in the beauty space, especially when it comes to men in makeup," Melissa explains further. "thread was very proud to be the first brand to put a man-in-makeup on our main header displays in Target."

That man is Saucy Santana. While he's been busy as the creative mind behind viral TikToks and setting the stage on fire with performances, he's also opening doors for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. As Melissa mentioned, the launch marks thread beauty as the first beauty brand to spotlight male models and creators in its in-store header visuals at Target, the exclusive in-store retailer for the brand.

"It's one thing to be the first celebrity face of thread beauty, but to also be the first celebrity face as a black, feminine, gay man will mean so much to my community—especially for boys like me," said Santana in the release. "Within the community, boys that are considered bigger, dark skin, plus-size and feminine don't get a lot of opportunities, so it means a lot to me and speaks volumes to who thread beauty is as a brand, that they chose me for this opportunity to show up for my community and make us more visible, and I love that!"

Giving Back

As a part of its ongoing commitment to empower others and increase beauty accessibility in marginalized communities, thread beauty donates 15% of each purchase made on the brand site to LGBTQIA+ allyship organizations.

"I think it's a great thing that thread caters to a wider range of deeper, melanin tones, and everything is $8," Santa shared in an interview with Sweety High. "I know so many pretty, dark chocolate people that used to have to spend $38 to $42 to get a really good shade at a beauty store. It allows the brown girls, boys and thems to be pretty at an affordable price."

So, you're probably wondering, what's the secret to some of Saucy Santana's makeup success? "To make my makeup look seamless, after setting my powder, I spray my finishing spray, then I beat it in and blend it in with the same powder brush I had just used," he told us. "This makes my makeup look flawless and clean, so it doesn't look like I just got my makeup done, but instead looks set."
