What Your Favorite Taylor Swift Song Lyric Says About You

Any Swiftie will tell you that Taylor Swift hasn't reached icon status on catchy beats alone. She's a Grammy-winning songwriter, with lyrics that are pop meets pure poetry. (Is our Swiftie showing?!? Maybe!)

With eight studio albums under her belt, Taylor has racked up dozens of hits, and even more quotable lyrics perfect for Instagram captions, T-shirts and screaming at concerts. We are still holding out hope for LoverFest, whenever it can safely happen.

If you consider yourself a card-carrying member of the Taylor Swift fan club, you are well aware of the superstar's lyrical prowess. What you may be less aware of is what your favorite, iconic Taylor lyric says about you. Keep reading to find out.

"You call me up again just to break me like a promise/So casually cruel in the name of being honest"

This line, from the bridge of Red's "All Too Well," may be the ultimate Taylor Swift lyric. There's the interesting turn of phrase, reference to gut-wrenching heartbreak and even a nod to a real-life boyfriend. (Hi, Jake Gyllenhaal.)

If this is your personal favorite lyric, you're likely a fan of all things that evoke nostalgia. You downloaded Disney+ on day one to watch all the original movies from your childhood. You live for traditions like baking cookies with your mom because you love to feel like you're living in a memory. Even if you don't have a scarf from an ex tucked away in a drawer specifically, you're very protective of old keepsakes because of the memories they bring up.

"So it's gonna be forever/Or it's gonna go down in flames/You can tell me when it's over/If the high was worth the pain"

"Blank Space" off Taylor's 1989 is one of the most tongue-in-cheek songs Taylor has ever written. No, she's not actually the man-eating character she portrays in her video, but imagine if she was.

If this is your favorite lyric, you're likely someone who loves to be the life of the party, even if that means you've made a couple of errors in judgment along the way. For you, that's just part of what makes life worth living.

"The way you walk, way you talk, way you say my name/It's beautiful, wonderful, don't you ever change"

"Hey Stephen," off Taylor's sophomore album Fearless, is an unapologetic love letter to a boy who isn't exactly Taylor's boyfriend. (Yet, anyway!) If this is your favorite lyric, you're likely a hopeless romantic who always follows her heart, even when it's risky.

"I've got a list of names and yours is in red underlined/I check it once, and I check it twice"

Forget the haters: "Look What You Made Me Do," off Taylor's Reputation, was a cultural reset. If this is your fave line, you're someone who knows your worth and won't let anyone undermine you. Oh, and you may really identify with Arya from Game of Thrones.

"Long live all the mountains we moved/I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you"

Speak Now's "Long Live" is the ultimate friendship anthem, if one that is a little bittersweet given it's implied that while the friendships may not last forever, they'll become happy memories someday.

If this is your favorite line, you are likely the person in your friend group who makes the plans and tries to have the most epic adventures possible. You also are the one who documents all said adventures, and your camera roll is full of group shots.

"We are alone just you and me/Up in your room our slates are clean/Just twin fire signs/Four blue eyes"

"State of Grace" is another Jake Gyllenhaal-inspired number from Red. If this is your favorite line, you totally believe in soulmates and ask everyone to add you on Co-Star.

"So much for summer love/And saying us/Because you weren't mine to lose"

"August," off Taylor's most recent album folklore, is a sad story of being the "other woman" who is also totally in love with the central point of the love triangle. If this line speaks to you, you act cynical about love, but deep down, you're a mushy romantic who believes you'll find it.

"Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we're 22"

Whether you're actually the titular "22" or not is irrelevant: This Red track —and its subsequent music video—is a banger. If this is your favorite line, you're someone who never takes life too seriously, and are always looking for a way to have a good time with your friends—haters be darned.

"Cold was the steel of my axe to grind for the boys who broke my heart/Now I send their babies presents"

This line, off folklore's "Invisible String," may be referencing Joe Jonas' new baby with wife Sophie Turner. If this line speaks to you, you live for personal growth moments and are always looking for ways to learn from your past.

"So watch me strike a match on all my wasted time/As far as I'm concerned, you're just another picture to burn"

"Picture to Burn," off Taylor's self-titled first album, may be one of her angriest songs yet. That doesn't mean you are necessarily an angry person if this is your fave, though. Instead, you're someone who puts the past in her rearview mirror. You're also the one who friends turn to post-breakup, because you're always the person who helps them up off the ground and into happier times.

"My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue/All's well that ends well to end up with you."

This line off of Taylor's titular song off Lover is crazy romantic. You may or may not have someone special in your life, but if you adore this line, it's likely because you're someone who believes things will work out as the universe has planned. You're never stressed because you know things are inevitably going to work out.
