Drop What You’re Doing and Watch These Female-Directed Films
We love seeing strong female characters on camera, but for some reason, it's rare that a strong female is seen behind the camera. More often than not, Hollywood films are directed by men, but some amazing ladies are paving the way for their fellow lady directors. Here are 8 of our favorite films that just so happen to be directed by butt-kicking females.
Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) was directed by one of the film's stars–Elizabeth Banks!
Big (1988) was directed by Penny Marshall! It's about a boy who wishes he were an adult. His wish comes true and a wild adventure ensues.
The Prince of Egypt (1998) is an animated re-telling of the story of Moses. Brenda Chapman was co-director of the film.
The film that put Jennifer Lawrence on Hollywood's radar, Winter's Bone (2010), was directed by Debra Granik.
The comedy classic Clueless (1995) had girl power on and off camera with Amy Heckerling directing the film.
Little Women (1994), based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, follows the lives of four sisters during the American Civil War era. Gillian Armstrong directed the film.
A League of Their Own (1992) is all about girl power! It centers on women in an all-female baseball league. Penny Marshall also directed this hit.
