Ferry Townes Chats Duetting With Liz Gillies on Their Gorgeous New Collab, ‘What You’ve Done’

Actress and musician Liz Gillies and American Idol alum Ferry Townes (Julia Gargano) are both incredible artists in their own right, but something very special happens when their songwriting and vocal talents come together.

That's very clear on their new collaboration, "What You've Done," a gorgeously folksy duet that comes together almost like a lullaby. Backed with simple acoustic instrumentation, the poignant track is propelled by the artists' dreamy voices as they each sing their own perspectives on new love, and how when everything goes right, it can almost feel too good to be true. We had the pleasure of chatting with Ferry herself to learn more about the song and how it came together—and how this likely won't be the last we'll hear from this unforgettable duo—in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'What You've Done'

Ferry Townes: Liz and I had written some tunes before and had played around with the idea of singing one together, but when we wrote "What You've Done," it immediately presented itself as a duet. Once we laid down the original day-of demo which was just our vocals and acoustic guitar, we both agreed the final version needed to be released just like that.

On the Collab

FT: We are both singing this song about our own situations, which is my favorite part about it being sung in two-part harmony. It feels like two friends venting with one another, and I adore how our voices sound together—that was such a bonus.

What 'What You've Done' Means

FT: In the early stages of getting to know someone romantically, I typically pick them apart like it's a sport. This song is about when nothing seems to be going wrong and it's as sweet as it is suspicious. It's a personal reminder to let the good stuff be good, and that sometimes there isn't a catch.

Ferry's Favorite Lyric

FT: The title lyric for sure. "What You've Done" comes off as dark and accusatory—but in the context of this sweet love song, the "blaming" that's happening is at the person that's making you feel safe and content.

Final Thoughts

FT: This may not be the last Liz and Ferry song you hear (:
