How to Flirt Back When Someone Is Flirting With You

Flirting is stressful.

Communicating your interest in someone without coming on too strong is always intimidating… even when they've already shown interest in you.

Granted, it's a little easier to flirt with someone if they initiated it, but there are still some pointers you can follow to make sure your flirting game is at its prime.

Keep scrolling for our best tips on how to flirt back when someone's flirting with you.

Make Eye Contact

Eye contact is so important when it comes to flirting. It shows that you're interested and engaged in the conversation, and it forces your crush to hold your attention instead of getting distracted and cutting your chat short. On top of that, eye contact signifies confidence, which everyone can agree is pretty darn attractive. If someone is flirting with you, make sure you hold their gaze and watch them get a little tongue-tied as they get lost in your eyes.

Smile

A genuine smile can say so much. If you tend to get lost in your thoughts or stumble over your words, a simple smile is the perfect way to communicate your interest to someone. But you have to be sure it's authentic. A forced smile or a smirk will likely convey to your crush that you're not interested in talking to them, which is the exact opposite of what you're trying to do. Don't think too much about this one—if you really like this person, your smile should automatically be genuine, which will give your crush the encouragement they need to continue their flirting.

Compliment Them

The absolute easiest way to flirt is to simply shower your crush in compliments. It shows that you're paying attention to them and that you want to make them feel good about themselves—what better way to show your interest? You have to be careful with this one, though. If you spend the entire conversation telling your crush everything you love about them, it's going to get a bit creepy. Drop one or two compliments into the conversation to show you like them, and then let it go.

Incorporate Touch

Nonverbal cues are just as important as verbal cues when flirting with your crush. You could compliment them all day long, but it won't be mean anything if you're physically closed off. The best way to show positive body language is to incorporate touch in some small way. Gently brush your crush's arm or even feel free to briefly grab their hand if they say something interesting. In this way, you can cross a barrier and physically bring you and your crush closer while simultaneously showing them that you like their attention.

Stay in Contact

If someone has repeatedly been showing their interest in you and you return their feelings, the best way you can move your relationship to the next level is to stay in touch. Pass along your number, your Snapchat or your Instagram or take theirs and make an effort to get in touch with them. It moves your relationship beyond casual flirting to the actual "talking" stage where you can figure out if things could work between the two of you. Plus, it's a nice sign to the person flirting with you that you're equally as interested, which is always encouraging.
