Shag Haircut
The style:
The style was created in the '70s, and popularized by many including David Bowie and Jane Fonda. It is a unisex style.
Why it's big:
One reason this style is prominent right now is because of its low-maintenance and effortless look. Especially with working from home, it makes sense to have a hairstyle that's easy to manage. Also, it's gaining popularity because of the revival of vintage trends in the past few years. This style is very versatile for any face shape or with many different textures of hair.
Notable wearers:
Billie Eilish and Kristin Stewart are two that come to mind.
Is it here to stay?
Yes, because it's low effort and allows people's natural texture and waves to shine through. Since the rise of COVID, many people no longer want to spend hours doing their hair, so this is a great way to combat that.
How to get the look:
Use the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray for the messy, shaggy look and lots of volume. Also, don't overdo it with the product. It's supposed to look a little messy and disheveled.
Modern Beehive Haircut
The style:
The classical elements of this style date back to the '60s, and the style resurged again in the 2000s because of the influence of Amy Winehouse.
Why it's big:
One reason is because of nostalgia and the rise of vintage trends. In addition, the style was seen on models during Fashion Week. It's also good for the current season, especially as an elegant holiday style. Cooler weather also means less frizz, so the style will stay looking sleek and in place.
Notable wearers:
Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz, Adele and Anna Taylor-Joy (Adele specifically has done this hairstyle a lot).
Is it here to stay?
This style is iconic but is having a modern moment at this time. It is the perfect way to style hair for holiday parties or a night out.
How to get the look:
Use the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray at your crown for lots of volume. The key to achieving this at home is building in the correct volume by teasing at the crown combined with using hot rollers.
Bixie Haircut
The style:
This style combines a bob and a pixie haircut. It's shorter than a bob, longer than a pixie, and with the hair off the neck and midface.
Why it's big:
It's prominent because it's daring and bold, and many people want to stand out, especially as they are reentering the world and traveling. Also, shorter hair is easier to manage, and long hair, especially extensions, has been so popular in the last few years, so this is a fresh change.
Notable wearers:
Florence Pugh, Demi Lovato and Courtney Love
Is it here to stay?
Yes, because it is a very customizable look and can be done to flatter many different facial shapes. There are also no set "rules" for this look—you can play with length, texture, etc. There's more wiggle room than just a simple bob or simple pixie cut.
How to get the look:
To style the Bixie, use a styling gel with medium hold mixed with a glossing cream.
