I Swapped My Generic Haircare Products for Customized Shampoo and Conditioner, and It Changed My Life
I've been on a quest for quite some time to grow out my hair.
I've tried everything from getting regular trims, to taking hair supplements, to reducing the frequency of using my flat iron—nothing seems to work.
And then I realized there's one thing I haven't changed through this whole process: the generic drug-store shampoo and conditioner line I've been using.
In one last effort to grow longer and healthier hair, I ditched my inexpensive shampoo and conditioner and opted to try Function of Beauty's new personalized shampoo and conditioner line.

Picking Out My Customized Products
The amazing part about this haircare line is that you get to make it yourself so that it caters directly to your needs.
To begin this process, I hopped on Function of Beauty's site and took their hair quiz to determine what would suit my locks best.
I provided them with information about my hair type, structure and moisture and then I gave them five specific hair goals that I hope to achieve. My goals were to volumize, lengthen, fix split ends control oil and control frizz.
The remaining three steps of the process were my favorite: picking the color and scent of the shampoo and conditioner and naming the product. I chose pink shampoo and purple conditioner with a grapefruit hibiscus scent (sounds delicious, right?).

I decided to name my product Function of BLG (my initals!). I submitted my preferences and chose my bottle sizes—the sets start at just $36, which is pretty affordable for customized haircare—and eagerly waited for my new products to arrive in the mail.
Trying Out My Personalized Products
When my shampoo and conditioner set arrived in the mail, I couldn't wait to tear the set out of its beautifully packaged box and hop in the shower to test it out.
I followed the instructions on the label and washed my hair with the shampoo twice before adding conditioner to the ends and letting it sit for a few minutes.
I was immediately drawn to the scent of the shampoo and conditioner—it was refreshing and not at all overpowering.
After my shower, I towel-dried my hair and ran my fingers through a few strands to test for tangles. The result? No tangles, just smooth locks that glided easily through my fingers.
After a quick comb-through, I pulled out my hair dryer and began the drying process. Within minutes, my hair was dry, sleek and surprisingly shiny.
Normally, I struggle with greasy roots, but with this shampoo and conditioner, no greasy strands were present post-shower. My hair genuinely felt smoother, sleeker and totally fresh—just how it feels when I walk out of a salon after having it done. ????
Final Thoughts
Now that I have tossed my generic shampoo and conditioner, I can say with 100% certainty that I will never go back.
I've been using my personalized haircare set for over a week now, and I've noticed three small, but wonderful changes:
1. Instead of my hair becoming greasy after one day of not washing it, I'm able to go two days—a total gamechanger.
2. When I get out of the shower I don't have to force my comb through my hair! There are seriously no tangles, which is a major time-saver.
3. My hair looks, smells and feels amazing, something no generic brand has ever been able to do for me.
These three benefits have forced me to believe that I will be using these products from now on. Now all I have to do is wait and see if it helps me achieve the length I've always desired!
