What Is Galentine’s Day?
Singles Awareness Day, Feb. 14, the worst holiday of the year—however you might refer to it—everyone knows about Valentine's Day.
But in recent years, a lesser-known holiday has slowly been claiming a notable place in the month of February: Galentine's Day. And while you might think that Galentine's Day is just an excuse for single girls to celebrate the day of love together, it's actually so much more than that.
So what exactly is Galentine's Day? Keep scrolling to find out.
Contrary to popular belief, Galentine's Day isn't just the girl-focused version of Feb. 14. In fact, Galentine's Day takes place one day before the official holiday of love, on Feb. 13.

Galentine's Day finds its origins in the beautiful angel who used to grace our TV screens: Leslie Knope. A happy-go-lucky park director, Amy Poehler's character on the popular show Parks and Recreation first coined the Galentine's Day title, dubbing it "the best day of the year."
According to Leslie, Galentine's Day is all about celebrating the women in your life and showing some massive love to your gal pals. You can be single, in a relationship, dating, etc.—it doesn't really matter. All you have to do is dedicate the 13th of Feb. to showing your friends just how much you love them.

If you're still confused, we'll allow Leslie to clear things up. In Season 1, Episode 16, she says:
"What's Galentine's Day? Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies."

Well, that about sums it up. If you're not celebrating Galentine's Day, start making plans immediately. Your girls deserve just as much love and attention as your S.O., so make sure you plan the perfect Feb. 13 celebration that showers affection on all your favorite ladies. After all, everyone knows girlfriends are the real soulmates.
