GSoul Wants to Invite You Into His World With New Single, ‘Window Pane (PLT)’

With Korean R&B singer GSoul, there is no standing on the outside looking in. There are few guesses or assumptions to make about where his feelings lie because he wears his heart on his sleeve through his music. Since his 2015 debut, he's established himself as one of the most talented South Korean R&B singers, with songs that show refreshing honesty, emotional intensity and skillful vocals. His latest single "Window Pane (PLT)" is no different.

The beat is soft and sultry—nothing too flashy—allowing GSoul's soulful voice to really shine. While showing off his acrobatic vocal skills, he invites listeners to join him and see the world from his window pane. The new single is just the start of GSoul's promising future activities, though, as he recently signed to new management and is currently on a North American tour. With all these exciting things happening, we can't wait to see what comes next for him.

We recently had the opportunity to interview him about his latest single, the tour and his love for R&B. Keep reading below to see all he had to say.

Sweety High: What is the significance of the name GSoul?

GSoul: It's a name that was given to me by a producer I worked with in Korea named JY Park when I was a kid. We did a song for this TV drama soundtrack and he felt I needed a new artist name, so he called me and told me my name was GSoul and I became GSoul ever since.

SH: You have a lot going on at the moment. You just released your new single "Window Pane (PLT)," and you're about to start your North American tour. What are you most excited about this summer?

GSoul: Yes, I do have a lot going on at the moment! I'm excited to finally be dropping new music! My new single "Window Pane (PLT)" is out now and I'm just so happy that it's finally released and the response so far has been really good. I'm excited to be kicking off the summer with my Pretty Little Thing tour! Having my single drop and then a tour hitting all the major cities throughout North America is crazy! I'm so thankful for my team and all the new opportunities coming my way. I'm looking forward to performing for all my fans around the country and traveling to all the cities. It's going to be a lot of work but I will learn a lot from the experience for sure.

SH: What has preparing for the tour been like?

GSoul: It's been pretty crazy but exciting still. Everything is new. I'm with a new label now. I'm signed with EP Entertainment. I have new management, 1331 Management Group. Both of my managers, Joe Kelley and Victoria Cannon, have been really hands-on in helping me prepare for this tour. We have creative meetings daily. This is my first time touring with a DJ, so he's bringing another element to my show. I'm in rehearsals every day but I believe everything is coming together.

SH: Can you talk a bit more about the creation process for "Window Pane (PLT)" from the writing to production to recording?

GSoul: Well, the song was written by P. Wright. He's a really cool songwriter. My manager, Joseph Kelley, heard the song first. He thought it would be a really great song for me to record, so he saved it for me. I connected to the song because of the concept of inviting my fans to see the world through my eyes. Because of music, I've traveled to different countries and have had so many different experiences so I like to include things that I'm going through or went through or have been exposed to in my music. "Window Pane" spoke to that.

Recording "Window Pane" was an interesting process. I first recorded it in Chicago and then I recorded it again at SONY Studios in New York City. I just wanted to make sure the sound and the emotions on the song really came through as it should. I usually record songs really quickly, but I took my time with "Window Pane" and in the end, I love how it all came together.

SH: What is one thing you would like new listeners to know about GSoul?

GSoul: I don't know. Really. I just let my music speak for myself. I'm really passionate about what I do. I love to sing and I want people to feel that when they listen to my music.

SH: You frequently show your love and appreciation for R&B  on your Instagram through covers of well-known R&B songs. Where does this love and appreciation come from?

GSoul: It comes from my long-time obsession with R&B music. I grew up in the '90s and R&B was most definitely the most dominating and globally influential genre as far as I remember. I wanted to not only listen to or make the music but study the history and the culture.

SH: Is there anything else you would like to add?

GSoul: I'm just grateful for all the lessons and that I get to experience becoming the next version of myself. I'm aware that not too many people get these types of opportunities in life, and that humbles me, so I feel blessed and grateful, even in the midst of all the chaos. And I'm thankful for my fans who have supported me since really forever.
