H1-KEY Reveal Their Optimistic Side With Latest Single ‘Deeper’

If you dive into H1-KEY's musical world, you might find a few differences between ours and theirs.

The grass seems greener, the sky is bluer and it feels as if everything is in technicolor, but that's just the H1-KEY effect. Debuting in 2022, the K-pop quartet is known for their inspiring songs and infectious, positive attitude. With songs such as "Rose Blossom" and "SEOUL (Such a Beautiful City)," the quartet refuses to shy away from the difficult parts of life and instead chooses to focus on the beautiful side in their music. Their latest project, H1-KEYnote, is no exception.

The first installment of the two-song project, "Thinkin' About You," tells the story of putting on a brave face while going through a breakup. But instead of stopping there, H1-KEY go further and ask themselves, "What if this isn't the end of the story?" The second part of H1-KEYnote is their latest single "Deeper," a pop track with rock influences. In it, the girls sing about leaving the past behind and embarking on a healing journey after the breakup depicted in its predecessor, "Thinkin' About You." The optimism makes it a stark contrast to "Thinkin' About You," but together, the two songs symbolize everything H1-KEY stands for—not dwelling on the negative but instead sharing hope and positivity through their music. We caught up with the group to learn all about the H1-KEYnote project, more about "Deeper" and to share a special message for their fans.

Sweety High: "Thinkin' About You" focuses on a breakup and "Deeper" focuses on the hopeful side after a breakup. Why did you want to depict both sides of a breakup and the healing process? 

SEOI: To express the confident and healthy concept of H1-Key, we sang about the process of overcoming hardships, such as breakups, by refusing to give up and moving forward. The lyrics of "Thinkin' About You" also talk about the mature mindset that one will not cry even while missing a lover.

 

SH: Do you prefer "Thinkin' About You" or "Deeper" more? 

RIINA: That's a hard question! While I like both "Thinkin' About You" and "Deeper," if I had to make a choice, I'd opt for "Deeper."

 

SH: What message do you hope your fans take away from the release of "Deeper?" 

HWISEO: The message I'd like to send is, "Even in a situation where you question right or wrong, if you keep your smile and just keep moving forward, you'll reach the sweet moment you've been looking for!"

SH: You've released several emotional songs and you do them well. What draws you to keep releasing sentimental songs? 

YEL: I believe one of our charms is that we can express sentimental stories that resonate with people. We've performed various songs so far, but there are many other charms that we haven't shown yet, so please look forward to what we're going to share with you.

 

SH: Would you consider songs like "Deeper" and "Thinkin' About You" with emotional lyrics H1-Key's signature sound? 

SEOI: I think the songs that express comfort and empathy in the sentimental lyrics are H1-Key's signature style! We will continue to present various songs through the H1-KEYnote project, so we hope you'll keep your eyes on our future works!

SH: Your fans find your songs, and you all as members, comforting, so what advice would you give to a fan who may be going through a tough situation like the one described in "Thinkin' About You?" 

RIINA: Most things in life usually get better over time. I hope you don't think in a too complicated way. I believe it'll be good to take your own time, reminding yourself that things will get better. 🙂

SH: What's next for you guys? Will there be a third part to this breakup and healing story, or will you try something different with your music? 

HWISEO: We do not have specific plans just yet, but we'd love to prepare performances with music that truly showcases H1-Key's unique color!
