Haiden Henderson Shares the True Story Behind His ‘Underdog Anthem’, ‘bleachers’

We've been infatuated with the music of pop singer-songwriter Haiden Henderson ever since we first heard his single "flight attendant,"and we've only become bigger fans of him since.

There's a good reason he's been a viral star, winning fans over with his personal yet all-too-relatable lyrics and captivating pop vocals, and we can see why he's been recently been dubbing himself a "one-man boy band." His latest single, "bleachers," fully builds on the promise. With a soundscape that shifts along with the narrative, it begins with an acoustic guitar and soft vocals before building into a rocking, stadium-worthy anthem as he shares his promise to make it big as an artist, calling out an ex who never believed in his musical career. From its message to its sound, we find it all irresistible, and we got the chance to catch up with Haiden to dive into the true story behind the song and what he has coming up next.

The Story Behind 'bleachers'

Haiden Henderson: Much like all of my songs, this one's very true to life. I was with a girl that never came to a single one of my shows in the two years that we dated and seemed to look down on what I was doing with music. Then a year after that relationship ended, I was watching a Lady Gaga interview where she recalled an ex of hers saying that she'd never make it and her response was that he'd never be able to buy a coffee without hearing her music. I thought that was so gangster and kinda embodied how I felt during that situation.

What 'bleachers' Means

HH: This song is a promise to myself that I'll take this music thing as far as it can go. I learned to play guitar while living in the back of my truck and grew up boiling hot water for baths so I've come to love being an underdog. For the people listening, I hope this song is their underdog anthem.

Haiden's Favorite Lyric

HH: The line "Might take Hailey from Bieber" has become kinda a joke for the fans and I because it's so random, haha. I also think the lines in the bridge are sick because the vocal is all one take and the intensity ramps up into the last crowd section in a really fun way. That section really cements that this song was made to be played live.
