Katy Perry’s Hairstylist Gives Us His Top Tips for Gorgeous, Healthy Hair

These looks were possible thanks to a series of wigs–and celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, best known for styling Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and Kim Kardashian.
We chatted up Chris about celeb styling and got the expert scoop on how to be kind to your hair. Spoiler: It's not as hard as you might think!
Sweety High: When you're working with a celebrity, what aspects of their look or personality do you try to reflect in their hair color and style?
Chris Appleton: I usually look at the client I'm working with and try to find out what their vibe is. You always like to push the boundaries and take them out of their comfort zone, but also [want] them to feel comfortable. I always like to make a point of difference, whether it's a braid, a color or a texture in their hair.

SH: What do you anticipate being the biggest hair trend of the fall?
CA: Hair is going back to "less is more." Soft, effortless hair texture is big, but in a provocative, feminine way.
SH: What was it like to work with Madison Beer in the photoshoot for Mane Addicts?
CA: So much fun. She was really up for trying something different as long as we kept it with that feminine edge. That's why we decided to play with the colors.
SH: What's the best habit girls can get into regarding their hair?
CA: Letting their hair breathe and letting that natural texture come through.

SH: What tips do you have for healthy, gorgeous hair?
CA: Make sure you deep-condition your hair twice a week. Invest in a good treatment mask. This will make all the difference to your hair. Also, add a drop of Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil at night and sleep in it.
