How HELLO GLOOM Channeled Summer Love and European House Sounds for Single ‘Eyes on Me’
In a world full of manufactured groups, South Korean indie singer-songwriter and producer HELLO GLOOM is paving his own path on the scene, and his work speaks for itself.
Formerly of the K-pop idol group IMFACT, HELLO GLOOM decided to branch off and focus on creating his own brand of music, co-founding his label, The Faker Club, with artist from20. After making his solo debut last year, he released his latest single, "Eyes on Me," last month on his birthday, May 28, and it's one we haven't taken off repeat since. The atmospheric track, composed and produced by HELLO GLOOM himself, channels the energy and pulsing beat of house music, creating a vibrant summer jam that's unlike any other Korean music we've heard. We had the pleasure of chatting with the artist to find out more about the track—and what's next—and he shared everything with us in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Eyes on Me'
HELLO GLOOM: Actually, I wanted to show what it feels like being driven by an irresistible stimulus. At first, the mood of the song was supposed to express the following idea: "You're like ecstasy, you make me feel ecstatic." However, due to my current emotional state and condition, I thought I couldn't sing a song that was too provocative. Then I decided that I wanted to express one summer night of my beautiful youth with this song. And that is what I aimed for with the lyrics.

What 'Eyes on Me' Means
HELLO GLOOM: This song shows the color of HELLO GLOOM. It's somewhat energetic, but on the inside, it's very lyrical. I think HELLO GLOOM is like fireworks—hot and painful to the touch, but beautiful if observed from a distance.

The Sound of 'Eyes on Me'
HELLO GLOOM: I actually wanted to use a sound that's not common in Korea. I love European DJs, so I naturally fell in love with house music. Generally speaking, I wanted to make a song for clubs and bars, which is not common in other K-pop songs. I worked on the lyrics to match the mood. Also, I created the drop part with my vocals.
What's Next
HELLO GLOOM: I want to release a lot of music and be a positive influence for others. In 2024, I'm planning to go on a tour to perform my songs.

Final Thoughts
HELLO GLOOM: I think that life is too short and we are too busy even to just look at the beautiful sides of the world. I hope my music can be your friend, whatever mood you are in, whether you are sick or happy.
