These Shelter Dogs Are Getting Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses for the Best Reason

You can learn a lot about a person from their Hogwarts house. One pet shelter in Florida has discovered that the same is true of dogs.

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is sorting its shelter dogs into the various Harry Potter houses to help them find homes. A dog's character is so much more important than their breed, so the shelter decided to group each dog into these houses to give every potential adopter a sense of their true personalities and increase their chances of getting adopted by loving families.

Sorting a dog is a little bit different than sorting a young witch or wizard. Rather than making the dogs wear a Sorting Hat (or take a quiz on Pottermore), the shelter came up with its own test where dogs are sorted based on their choice of toy.

The dogs can wind up as a brave Gryffindor, ambitious Slytherin, brainy Ravenclaw or loyal Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs are apparently the most common, which is good because Hufflepuff traits make for a particularly sweet pup.

The shelter's plan appears to be working, as the participating dogs are getting adopted at a higher rate than usual. More than 40 dogs have been sorted so far, and we hope to see even more in the future.
