How Likely You Are to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution, Based on Zodiac Sign

Are you the type of person who's bound to stick with your New Year's resolution all year long, or one who's already forgotten about it a week into January?

Whether you're successful with your resolution depends on a lot of factors, form your individual drive to the results you see, and if your goals force you to make immediate, drastic changes or more gradual ones. If you're a believer in astrology, you may also find that your zodiac sign plays a role. Keep scrolling to find out how likely your sign is to keep a New Year's resolution below.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is as bold and impulsive as they come. If you fall under the sign, chances are that you eagerly decided you were going to make some big changes this year, but have already completely forgotten about them a week in. That's fine, because you've already moved on to better things. Given your active and passionate nature, once you find out what actually works for you, it's bound to stick.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus is a steady and dependable earth sign, and thus one of the most likely to set a resolution and actually make it happen. They're known for their reliability, often setting resolutions about productivity, self-care, skill-building and organization. It also helps that they're the most stubborn sign in the whole zodiac. If they tell anyone else about their resolution, they have to stick with it, just to prove a point.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Represented by twins, Gemini is a sign of duality, so we say chances are about 50/50 that your resolution will make it until summer. Geminis are known for being sociable and adaptable, as well as a bit inconsistent. If your resolution has to do with meeting new people and making more consistent plans with friends, we bet you'll make it happen, but if it's to do with work or wellness, it may be tougher—unless you have folks to support your journey and keep you accountable.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Resolutions can be a bit tricky for sensitive Cancer. You might have started the new year off invigorated by lofty ideals, only to find that commitment a bit overwhelming when put into practice. Cancer's tendency to put other people first can also derail their best intentions, preventing them from sticking fully to their goals. You're bound to have better success if you remember that a resolution isn't "broken" just because you've strayed from it and you can restart any time.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

Confident and extroverted Leos aren't ones to hold back from telling everyone about their New Year's resolutions, and they can't stand letting people down. This outward pressure makes them very likely to succeed. However, Leos can also be surprisingly sensitive when it comes to criticism, and if any little thing goes wrong, they're also happy to abandon a resolution, coming up with the perfect excuse in order to save face.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22)

Of all of the signs of the zodiac, perfectionist Virgo may be the most likely to stay true to a New Year's resolution. While they hold themselves to a high standard, they also know their limits, and are more than willing to push themselves to achieve their maximum potential. They're analytical and persistent, and the fact that they're their own worst critics only motivates them even more.

Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22)

Peace-loving and balanced Libras are also known for being a bit wishy-washy, which unfortunately doesn't lend itself to creating a structured plan and adhering to it. While they may have some ambitious ideas about what they can do for self-improvement, they'll also happily drop something if it doesn't feel right or fit into their existing lifestyle. They're also prone to caving to external social pressures, which can also get in the way of any resolution.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

For Scorpios, New Year's resolutions are a very personal matter, and though no one else will be aware of your new mission, there's a high likelihood you'll stick with it throughout the year. If you're anything like the typical Scorpion, you're passionate and intense about whatever you set your mind to, and that single-minded focus on your goals will get you there, so long as you can let go of missteps along the way and keep your eyes on the prize.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

For Sagittarius, the success of a New Year's resolution truly relies on the type of resolution. They're one of the zodiac's greatest commitment-phobes, following their impulsive natures at every step, making it tricky to keep up with new routines around diet, fitness and organization. However, if they resolve to meet new people, travel more and try new things (all activities they were going to do anyway), then it'll be no problem.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

As the hardest-working sign of the zodiac, you might think that Capricorn would be guaranteed to stick to their resolutions, but that isn't always the case. There's a reason they have a reputation for being all work and no play. While career or academics-focused resolutions work well for them, they're not so good at making changes to prioritize their social lives, relationships and self-care routines unless they're willing to make some big perspective shifts.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Leave it to Aquarius to set an unusual New Year's resolution. Their concepts for self-improvement probably won't be found on any list of common resolutions because they know themselves extremely well and understand precisely how they want to set themselves up for success in the future. But just because Aquarius is perfectly aligned with a resolution doesn't mean it's going to last, because they're also known to change their mind at a moment's notice.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

Pisces is the dreamer of the zodiac, and while they're known for having big aspirations, they don't have much of a reputation for actually seeing things through. They're extremely passionate and imaginative, but they can tend to bite off more than they can chew with unrealistic ideas and a lack of motivation. If their New Year's resolution is about creativity and artistry, they may have better luck. Otherwise, a collaborative effort may be just what they need to realize their goals.
