How The Simple Act of Getting My Nails Done Makes Me Strikingly More Confident
I've always struggled with confidence.
The feeling for me is usually fleeting. I'll experience it after someone has given me praise, after I've completed a trying task or after I've had a really good day.
But confidence isn't a feeling I want to stick around temporarily—I want it to last.
Recently, as I visited the adorable Olive & June nail salon in Beverly Hills, California, I sat, thinking long and hard about what small but meaningful things in my life give me self-assurance.
It didn't take me long before I realized the one simple piece of self-care that certainly gives me a lasting boost of confidence was literally right beneath my nose: a manicure.

How does the simple task of getting a little paint and polish on my nails totally transform the way I think and feel about myself daily? See the three central reasons below that explain why a mani gives me total confidence (and can give you some, too!)
1. It Makes Me Feel Put Together
It's true that if you look good, you feel good. Even if my hair is in a messy bun and I'm wearing sweatpants and a slouchy t-shirt, at least I can look down and see ten fingers, perfectly polished. When I feel beautiful, I think positively, act more poised and radiate good energy. Unlike a nice hairdo or a cute outfit, a manicure stays with you for more than just a day.
2. It Makes Me Feel Powerful and Lifts My Morale
I'm a giver and a doer, and I always try and think about others before I think about myself. When I decide to get a manicure, it's one incident where I'm totally selfish and allow someone to do something for me. By treating myself, I feel special, elegant and like I can conquer anything whether it be an interview, a presentation or a first date.
3. It Usually Marks Monumental Events
Whenever I get my nails done, it's usually for an occasion. Typically it's for a holiday, a formal event or a special presentation. To me, all of these happenings signify progress.
I get my nails done because I'm moving forward, I'm growing up and—more importantly—I'm becoming who I want to be.
I'm certainly not saying getting a manicure solves all of my problems or will solve all of yours, but I am saying that acts of self-care like getting a manicure can surprisingly affect your perspective on your self-worth.
If you want to boost your own confidence, I challenge you to think about the small things you do in your life that bring a smile to your face and help you truly believe in yourself.
Latch on to those things, and, like me, you'll see achieving the confidence you desire is totally possible.
