How to Achieve a Natural Makeup Look in 5 Simple Steps

If you are over the full-faced makeup look, there are plenty of ways to avoid all of that nonsense.

Spending a lot more time at home over the last couple of years has shown us the importance of maintaining great skin, as well as just how fabulous a natural, "no-makeup" makeup look can be. If you're not sure how to wear less makeup, here's a step-by-step guide to achieving a flawless natural look.

1. Start With a Great Skincare Routine

Before starting the actual makeup, you'll want to make sure you have a clean face. Start by washing your face and layering with the necessary toner, serums (such as hyaluronic acid and caffeine solutions), and, of course, moisturizer. Pinning back any loose hair will also make getting ready that much easier. We recommend being as thorough as possible to keep your skin healthy and looking refreshed.

2. Set Your Foundation

The key to the "no makeup" makeup look is treading lightly, and when worn properly, foundation doesn't have to be noticeable at all. Apply a lightweight cream or liquid foundation to cover smooth out imperfections, correct skin tone and make your skin look even overall—or if your skin is already looking great, a hint of concealer can cover up any discoloration or blemishes. If you've been keeping up with your skincare routine, you may even find you can skip this step entirely.

3. Focus on the Eye Area

Next, it's time to focus on the brows, lashes and eyes in general. Gelling your brows is a great place to start, and don't be afraid to color them in a little, if needed. While most natural looks will skip eyeshadow altogether, you can use a hint of earth-toned eyeshadow for a look that pops without too much drama, as well as a natural-looking eyeliner. Of course, mascara and curled lashes are a must for making your eyes pop, regardless of the look.

4. A Pop of Color for the Face

Yes, bronzer and blush can be fantastic for natural looks, as long as you keep it subtle. Bronzer can shape your face, while blush will make it looks rosy and naturally sun-kissed. And highlighter is optional, but if you love incorporating it for that dewy look, definitely do.

5. Add a Gloss

Finish off the look with a subtle lip. Whether you go for a light pink gloss or a nude liquid matte lipstick, you can't go wrong. Gloss or light pink or nude lipstick will be subtle enough to give you a nice pop of color and glow while still looking as natural as possible.
