How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day This Year

It's officially March, and that means that the luckiest day of the year is right around the corner!

Whether you're Irish or not, St. Patrick's Day is a fun day to feel a little extra lucky, sip on a little shamrock shake and maybe even try to find yourself a pot of gold—just don't get pinched by forgetting to don your green.

While it might not be one of the biggest holidays of the year (at least, not one that we get off from school or work), St. Patrick's Day is still worthy of celebrating. If you don't have a plan set in (Blarney) stone just yet, we've got you covered. Just check out some of these ideas for how to celebrate St. Paddy's Day this year:

1. Throw An All-Green Get Together

No pinching here! Get your best lads and lasses together, let them know the only dress code is to wear green and have a great time gathered together—bonus points if you can whip up a green punch to hydrate you all through your shenanigans. By the way, you can always use that green eyeshadow that you usually avoid in your usual palette if you don't have anything green to actually wear.

2. Have a Plant Party

Something else that's green? Plants! Not only are plants good for the environment, but keeping a few around your space can be beneficial for your mental health, too. You could take a trip with your friends to the local plant shop (or Lowe's, if nothing else) and pick out some matching potted pals, then try your best not to let them wilt too soon afterward. Or, combine this idea with No. 1 on this list and host a plant pot-decorating party (you could even paint them with specifically shamrock or St. Paddy's themed patterns if you want, too).

3. Try a Scavenger Hunt Around Town

If you can't get together at anyone's house, no problem. Print out a list of green or Irish things you can think of, split up in groups with your friends and see who can tick off the most. Of course, make sure everyone takes pics along the way for proof. Winner gets a pot of gold (and by pot of gold, we mean chocolate coins or some other sort of lucky charm, but that creativity is left up to you).

4. Movie Night and Snacks Fit for a Hungry Leprechaun

If nothing else, a chill night in your PJ's (preferably shamrock-printed, of course) with friends is always a good way to celebrate. Pick a movie set in Ireland (quite a few rom-coms have chosen this country for a setting and it's not hard to imagine why) if you can, craft some green or at least on-theme snacks—guacamole totally counts, by the way—and settle in for a night of fun with your friends.
