Creativejawns’ Allie Cohen on How to Decorate Your Dorm Room
Your dorm room isn't just a place to hide dirty laundry and take power naps between classes. It should feel like a home away from home.
To get there, it helps to decorate it in a way that balances the nostalgia of your childhood bedroom with the independence of your first place on your own—and when it comes to transforming a college room, Allie Cohen, founder and CEO of Creativejawns, is the first person who comes to mind.
We had the honor of speaking with Allie about her collections with TilePix and her advice on the essentials you need for your dorm in this interview.
Sweety High: Congratulations on the success of your brand! What inspired you to create Creativejawns in the first place?
Allie Cohen: I created Creativejawns in 2019 during my senior year of college. I started an Instagram account as a place to store my artwork and as an outlet for my creative passion. The account really took off and gained traction and the rest was history. Once more people started to find out about my account, I was able to grow an audience and a platform and turn my passion into a business.

SH: What has been your reaction to seeing your company grow and become so successful?
AC: Seeing my company grow has been so incredible and something that I truly never could have imagined. I feel so grateful that I have the most supportive consumers who believe in Creativejawns and the message behind it, which is creativity and connection. I am in awe every day at the amount of support behind my business and I come up with ideas all of the time about how I can grow and take it to the next level.
SH: Tell us more about your amazing TilePix collection. What was your inspiration behind it?
AC: I actually have two outstanding collections of photo tiles with TilePix. I love them both so much. I especially love the meaning behind both of these projects. The collections both represent girl boss energy, color, warmth and a positive feel for your space. The collections are the perfect way to spice up your room and give it a pop of personality without it being too overwhelming. TilePix is truly the perfect solution for college students and my collections are so affordable with the tiles starting at $17!

SH: If you had to choose, what is your favorite product from the collection?
AC: My favorite product from the collection is the yellow design from the first one that says "Trauma?! You mean the reason I'm so funny!" I am obsessed with the message behind it and relate to it so much. It's also really cool because you can personalize your gallery in such a unique way. All of my designs are offered on a mix of products, which means you can order
each piece of artwork on not just photo tiles, but also glass tiles, skateboards, canvas and posters.

SH: What are your best tips for our readers on how to decorate their dorm and make it feel like home?
AC: Some of my best tips would be to create a space that feels authentically you! Pick a color scheme or colors that represent you so that your space feels like home. Fill your space with pictures of your family and friends so they are always by you. You can also upload your own photos to all of TilePix's products to mix and match your pictures with my collections! Make sure your space is cozy and comfy because it will be your safe space during the challenging moments you encounter during the year.
SH: What are some things that new college students forget to bring from home or buy that are essential to your dorm room?
I think the following are really important to making your space feel like your new home. I know there's so much to remember so here is my easy guide:
- A fan
- A Brita
- Slippers
- Shower shoes
- Extension cord
- Mattress topper

SH: What are some dos and don'ts of what our readers should do to transform their normal-looking dorm rooms?
AC: Do find art that represents you as a person, create a warm and cozy space, make sure your comforter is comfy and machine washable and have storage under your bed and around your room.
Don't damage your walls, not decorate or come in with a negative attitude!
SH: Can you tease what fans of you can expect from you in the future?
AC: More awesome collabs with TilePix, new designs, new community efforts, new dorm décor ideas and much more!
