Set Living Situation Parameters
The first thing you need to do as soon as you land at a hotel or rental home is set parameters. Figure out sleeping situations and where your luggage will go. Also, discuss who takes longer getting ready so that person can jump in the shower first. Discuss if you two are willing to borrow clothes, and be honest about toiletries from the start. If you forgot your toothpaste, your vacay buddy will surely notice when their supply starts depleting after a few days.
Find Alone Time
You don't have to make a big deal about it, but try to find a few minutes of alone time every day. Don't make your travel bestie feel bad by announcing it, just find the times that work for you. Perhaps you sit in the balcony while they shower, or you go grab a coffee while they phone their parents. Breaking from your travel partner, even if for a few minutes each day, will help you clear your head, and most importantly, clear any annoyance you may have with them.

Be Punctual
One important rule to keep a trip running smoothly is to be on time! Nothing can tick off a travel partner like regularly being late. Not only is it selfish, but it's also the fastest road to guaranteeing you won't be invited to another trip in the near future. Be respectful of everybody's time, don't lag in the gift shop or in the mirror. If you do find yourself wanting or needing a few more minutes, communicate that with your friend so that they understand where you are coming from.

Pay Your Way
One of the biggest mistakes you can make while traveling is not paying your way. Even if you were invited by your friend's family, make sure you offer to pick up the tab here and there. If you two find yourself constantly grabbing dinner or coffees, always make sure the tab is split evenly. Keep a mental note of the expenses they pick up, and don't hesitate to reciprocate.
