How to Know If Your Crush Is Flirting With You Over Text
Texting can make for some pretty confusing interactions.
It's an easy way to stay in contact with someone, but tone of voice and nonverbal cues are all missing from the conversation, which can make for quite a few misunderstandings about what someone really meant. And there's no situation where texting is more confusing than when you're having a conversation with your crush.
So how can you know if your convo with your crush is flirty or friendly? Keep scrolling for a few foolproof signs that your crush is flirting with you over text.
1. They Reply Quickly
Quick replies are always a good sign when it comes to texting. It shows that your crush genuinely wants to chat with you and get to know you a little better. Considering how busy everyone is on a daily basis, quick responses also imply that your crush is making your conversation a priority. While longer replies aren't necessarily a deal-breaker, fast responses are a nice sign that your crush is engaged in the discussion and enjoys texting with you.

2. They Ask Questions
Questions are essential to a good texting conversation, but that doesn't mean that everyone asks them, so if your crush is contributing to your conversation by asking questions, it's a good sign. Not only does it show that they're actually interested in your life and have a desire to get to know you better, but it also indicates that they don't want the conversation to end. Bonus points if their questions go beyond, "What are you doing?" and "How was your day?"
3. They Send Long Responses
Just as asking questions shows that your crush wants to continue the conversation, long responses indicate that they want to be a functioning part of the texting exchange. There's nothing worse than continuously receiving one-word answers, a single emoji or even the dreaded "k." Long responses mean your crush put some thought into their text and wants to contribute to a functional conversation, whereas short replies are probably an indication that they're not that interested in talking to you.
4. They Compliment You
This one's pretty obvious, but just in case you didn't know, compliments are a good thing. Your crush is literally telling you what they like about you— it's an unquestionable indication that they're flirting with you.

5. They Use Emojis
Yes, yes—we all use emojis, but are you really filling your texts with laughing faces and smileys for someone you don't really care about? Of course you're not, and the same is true for your crush. Any emoji use is a good sign, but you should definitely watch out for the explicitly flirty emojis. Heart eyes, kissy faces, winks and hearts of any kind are pretty clear indications that your crush wants to be more than friends.
6. They're Not Afraid of Texting First
The "who texts first" discussion will probably never be fully solved. Honestly, it doesn't really matter who texts first as long as your crush shows that they want to have a conversation, but your crush taking the scary step to shoot the first message is a nice gesture. We're all intimated by the first text, so it shows that texting you was important enough to push past their fears. It doesn't mean they've fallen in love with you, but it's a good sign that they actually enjoy chatting.
7. They Hint at Hanging Out
Texting is all fine and good, but it doesn't really mean anything if digital communication is as far as it goes. You can't have a relationship through a phone, so you should always be on the lookout for any hints that your crush wants to take your relationship to the in-person level. Suggesting that you should do something in person shows that they're actually committed to spending time with you, so you should definitely jump on their offers to hang out the second they arise.

8. The Conversation Is Continuous
Texting can be quite the time commitment, so if your crush is texting you constantly it's a pretty clear sign that they're interested. They're investing a whole lot of time and effort into chatting with you, which shows that they truly enjoying getting to know you. It's not a bad sign if you're convo is a little more stop-and-go, but continuous conversation is a pretty clear sign that they see you as more than a friend.
