Hullabaloo Steampunk Animation Is All Girl Power!

Veteran Disney animator James Lopez is working on an independent steampunk animation called Hullabaloo. It's full of girl power, and you can help it get made with the crowdfunding site IndieGoGo!hullabaloo girl power animation

Lopez aims to use the short film to revive the dying art of hand-drawn 3D animation. In the past, he's worked on animation for films including Lion King, Hercules, The Princess and the Frog, and Paperman.

With a team of experienced animators and more from Disney and Dreamworks, plans to make his mission a reality!

"In addition to helping save 2D animation, Hullabaloo aims to encourage girls to explore science and adventure," reads the campaign page. "The film's two protagonists are both young women and both scientists who use their intellect, wits, and courage to fight greed and corruption."

Hullabaloo is an adventure that focuses on the story of Veronica Daring, a brilliant young scientist who returns from finishing school to find that her inventor father, Jonathan Daring, has vanished!

Veronica decides to search for clues in the abandoned amusement park her father used as his laboratory, where she meets a fellow inventor named Jules.

The duo team up and discover that Jonathan has been kidnapped by an evil and enigmatic group who plan to use his inventions for their own malevolent gain. Veronica sets out to save her father, and the purity of his invention, by taking on the identity of her alter ego, "Hullabaloo," using her knowledge and knack for inventing to save the day!

The plan was to start Hullabaloo as a short film with the potential to become a web series or television show. If enough money is raised, it may even become a feature film!

So far the campaign has raised over $250,000, more than tripling their original $80,000 goal! With the money, the team will create not just one Hullabaloo short, but also additional episodes called Curse of the Cheshire Cat and The Mysterious Island!

The IndieGoGo campaign closes on October 1. Check out the campaign here as well as Hullabaloo's official site to learn more, and maybe make a contribution!
