HunterGirl Talks Exploring a New Side of Her Music With Playful New Track, ‘Bad Boy’
As avid fans of HunterGirl ever since she first wowed us on American Idol in 2022, we couldn't be happier about the huge year she's having.
Not only will she be touring with Luke Bryan and Kimberly Perry this summer, on top of releasing a brand new EP, but we just got a first taste of it in the form of her irresistible new single, "Bad Boy." It's more of a pop-country sound than we've heard from HunterGirl in the past, resulting in an infectious and all-too-relatable bop about always falling for boys you know aren't good for you and ignoring ever last red flag on the quest for romance. From the first listen, we just had to learn more, and we got the chance to catch up with HunterGirl to get the inside scoop on the inspiration behind the track and so much more.
The Story Behind 'Bad Boy'
HunterGirl: When it comes to love, "Bad Boy" is the story of my life. I always fall for the ones with issues and tattoos (sadly). If there is a mean looking guy in the corner, I'll be like "Wow, he looks so nice!" And if he is a walking red flag with a jaded back story, I'm always like "I can fix him!"

What 'Bad Boy' Means
HunterGirl: I want "Bad Boy" to be the one people listen to at full volume in their bedroom jumping and dancing around. I hope my listeners feel the excitement that I had when I wrote it, and that they are not the only ones who fall for the bad boys.
HunterGirl's Favorite Lyric
HunterGirl: Either "I like guys with issues," or "Yeah, I know my Daddy's gonna really hate this song," for obvious reasons. Both make me laugh because they're both true!

On Exploring a New Sound
HunterGirl: I feel like "Bad Boy" let me show a different side of my personality. I separate songs into two categories in my head, "Blue Jean" and "Leather Jacket" songs. "Blue Jean" songs are the ones I write in my bedroom thinking about life and opening my diary to the world. "Leather Jacket" songs are the ones where I want to feel tougher than I am and just have fun. Writing this song was one of my favorite days in the studio because I felt free.
