Get to Know the Artists Nominated for iHeartRadio’s Best Underground Alternative Band
The iHeartRadio Music Awards announced their list of nominees last week.
It's no shock that Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers were among the nominees of the show's extensive catalog of categories.
But there's one category in particular I was stoked about—Best Underground Alternative Band! I listen to every band nominated in this category religiously, so I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that some of my favorite acts are up for this award.
Keep scrolling to get to know these bands better than ever, because it's up to you to decide who should be the ultimate victor.
Hey Violet
Hey Violet is a band I've recently started jamming out to more regularly. Many of you have probably heard of them through 5 Seconds of Summer, but this group has come a long way since then. Their sound has certainly evolved from punchy pop punk to more groovy alternative rock in the most seamless way possible. I can't wait for all that is to come from these talented peeps because this is only the beginning.
My favorite song: "Brand New Moves"
Pierce the Veil
I've been listening to Pierce the Veil for years, yet every time I turn on their tunes, it feels like I'm listening to them for the first time. As cheesy as that sounds, it's the truth. Their music has been with me through so many pivotal moments that a majority of their songs have become the soundtrack to my life. What I love most about these guys is that they aren't afraid to experiment with their sound. While each of their albums is distinctly them, they're all unique in their own ways. If you're a fan of more hardcore music, definitely give these dudes a listen. You won't be disappointed.
My favorite song: "Circles"
PVRIS
If you know me, you know I will bring up PVRIS (pronounced "Paris") any chance I can. Whether it's talking about them or playing their music, I make it a point to share this group with everyone I meet. These guys and gal have a bit of a dark vibe in terms of their lyrics and just overall aesthetic, which makes them a bit mysterious. And while they are somewhat enigmatic, their lyrics truly spell everything out for you. Their unapologetic nature is absolutely refreshing.
My favorite song: "My House"
Sleeping With Sirens
Similar to Pierce the Veil, Sleeping With Sirens is a band I've listened to for years now. I've been with these guys through thick and thin, always turning to their music when I need to destress. Packing a mean punch, their assertive and energetic songs are the perfect thing to listen to if you have any pent up aggression. They certainly do not hold back.
My favorite song: "Fly"
Tonight Alive
If you've never heard of Tonight Alive, get ready to meet your new favorite band. There is not a single group out there quite like them. As humans, they're so comfortable with who they are, that listening to their songs guides you into finding your own confidence. It sounds strange to say this, but I honestly feel like such a better person after I listen to their inspiring tunes. I could sing their praises until the end of time, but you really have to listen to them for yourself to fully comprehend what I'm trying to say about these wonderful people.
My favorite song: "Power of One"
