Isabella Rose Taylor Dishes On Her Fashion Line!
Isabella Rose Taylor is a 12-year-old fashion designer, poet and artist who is making a big impression on the fashion world with her self-titled juniors clothing line.
We recently spoke with Isabella about the things that inspire her and being a young woman of big achievements!
Isabella Rose Taylor's passion for design started when she was very young.
"I honestly cannot remember a time when I didn't want to be creating something, whether it was painting or designing fashions," Isabella said. "I began pursuing my creative passions very early."
She started painting when she was just 3 years old, and started sewing her own clothes when she was 8.
Isabella's passion for the arts has always played a key role in her fashion designs.
"It is a creative outlet that I find seeps into my fashion designs and vice versa," she said. "There are times when it is deliberate and other instances when I have not been aware of how they may cross over or influence each other."
She has also had the opportunity to travel extensively with her parents across the world. She has been not just across the United States, but to Iceland, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and more.
She said that the experiences have affected her outlook on life, as well as her work.
"Traveling definitely influences my designs as well as my paintings," she said. "I feel very lucky to have been able to travel to amazing places and learn about different cultures. Travel really opens your mind to different possibilities and all the experiences I have had impact me in what I want to create."
Isabella even started taking college courses when she was just 11 years old. These courses give her a lot of freedom to work and study as she pleases.
"I really do love taking college courses, especially that I can block my schedule differently than in high school," she said.
Working out a college schedule that fits into her life as a designer has taught her valuable time management skills.
"It can get tricky at times balancing the demands of my fashion line with classes," she explained. "However, if something isn't working in my schedule then I realize it is time to change it or modify it to make everything more manageable."
Today, Isabella Rose Taylor's clothing line for juniors sells clothing that reflects her desire to allow girls to express themselves artistically. The line is feminine but edgy, with looks that are age appropriate yet mature.
Her designs have shown on the runway at events including Austin Fashion Week, but Isabella said she is comfortable being a 12-year-old fashion designer even at the biggest of fashion shows.
"I have had such great support that I really do not feel out of place," she said.
Isabella cited a long list of influences in the realms of both art and fashion.
"In fashion I am very inspired by Isabel Marant, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Marchesa, Chanel, and the list keeps going," she said. "Some of my biggest influences in art are Cy Twombly, Willem de Kooning, Rothko and Joan Snyder."
But Isabella doesn't think her success is unique. She urges other aspiring designers to do all they can to succeed.
"My advice would be to put in a lot of 'blood, sweat & glitter' to achieve your dream," she said. "It takes a lot of hard work and creativity. not to mention perseverance and determination, but I would encourage anyone to follow their dream at any age."
We asked her what she predicts will be the big fashion trends for summer of 2014.
"I think the trends for summer and other seasons will be to really show off who you are in bold boxy shapes, cool graphic tees, tribal prints, a hippie festival vibe or straight up street style," she said. "Mixing prints and patterns is on trend."
