How Discovering a Pure Kind of Love Inspired Jazmin Bean’s Latest Single, ‘Terrified’

There's something about the music of English singer-songwriter and makeup artist Jazmin Bean that's simply irresistible.

Their 2020 debut EP, Worldwide Torture, has over half a billion streams, and we're already anticipating that their upcoming album, Traumatic Livelihood, will be even bigger. Featuring the hit singles "Favourite Toy" and "Piggie," it's set to release in February 2024, but the latest single, "Terrified," has to be our favorite. With a '90s-influenced indie-rock sound driven by romantic strings, it's a song about the fear that accompanies finally finding a love that's not toxic, and believing for the first time that a relationship might actually work out. We also love its playfully eery music video, which feels just right for the Halloween season.

We had the pleasure of chatting with Jazmin themself to learn all about the song. Find out what it means to them in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'Terrified'

Jazmine Bean: The story behind "Terrified" was about a real love, and it's kind of just about finally experiencing something that was pure and loving and didn't have any motive or ill intent after what felt like a lifetime of abusive relationships and conditioning.

What 'Terrified' Means

JB: The song means a lot to me and represents a really new time in my life that I hadn't experienced before. I hope the fans can feel hopeful and warm when they listen to it

Jazmine's Favorite Lyric

JB: My favorite lyric is probably, "The stars you breathe begin to brush my hair." It correlates with the music video and some lyrics with "Favourite Toy," the lyric "I don't want my stars they are urs to keep," kind of being restored in faith that I've always given away to the wrong people.
