JoJo’s Is the Delicious Protein-Packed Chocolate Designed to Curb Sugar Cravings

There are few foods I find myself craving more often than chocolate.

That can be unfortunate, being most of my go-tos are packed with extra sugar and carbs, leaving my mouth satisfied, but my body feeling not so great. However, I've recently become a big fan of confectioners that manage to make chocolate delicious without a whopping spoonful of sugar in every tasty bite.

So when the folks behind JoJo's low-sugar chocolate bars reached out to me to see if I'd like to do a taste test, I didn't hesitate to say yes. They sent me a bag of each of their four unique flavors and made me an instant fan.

The Product

JoJo's guilt-free chocolate is designed to help you kick sugar and chocolate cravings with a low-sugar snack. They're great for those on low-sugar diets, or who just need a detox every once in a while without having to forgo sweet treats.

They're made with 70% dark chocolate from Germany, giving them all of the antioxidant and blood pressure-lowering qualities of dark chocolate while also managing to be keto, paleo, vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free and soy-free. They even have additional plant-based protein to help satisfy while also preventing energy crashes, including four to six grams of protein per bar.

They're sold in individually wrapped bars for $1.99 and 8.4 oz bags that retail for $9.99 to $10.99.

The Experience

Original

When I do taste tests, I typically start with the Original flavor as a baseline, as it's usually the most generic of the flavors. That absolutely wasn't the case with JoJo's. When I opened the bag, it contained seven generous 1.2 oz. bars, and I was surprised to see how packed with goodness they were. The Original flavor is embedded with pistachios, almonds and dried cranberries on one side. Even though I was expecting these ingredients all the way through, I found that they were actually included in the perfect ratio, and at about 3.5 inches in length, they're anything but wimpy.

When I took my first bite, I discovered that the chocolate is very dark. It will likely be too dark for many people's tastes, but I found the bitterness rounded out a hint of sweetness, as well as tart flavor from the cranberry. The nuts also add a delightful crunchy texture, and I couldn't wait to eat the rest of the bar. When I was finished with it, however, I felt like I'd had enough, which was a great feeling. It actually did kick my chocolate craving, and to my surprise, wound up being my favorite flavor of the four.

Peanut Butter Delight

There's a beautiful simplicity to JoJo's Peanut Butter Delight bars, which are just dark chocolate, peanuts and sea salt. Peanut and dark chocolate lovers will adore this flavor, even if Reese's Peanut Butter Cup devotees might find it lacking in the sweetness department. In my opinion, this one tasted the darkest out of the four flavors because the buttery peanuts did little to lessen the bitterness of the chocolate. The addition of sea salt is also subtle, and I would've liked it to be more salty—even if they probably didn't go in that direction because it's supposed to be healthy. Peanut Butter Delight is my least favorite JoJo's flavor, but that doesn't mean I don't break off a chunk here and there for a tasty nibble.

Goes Hawaiian

JoJo's Goes Hawaiian flavor is a stroke of genius, combining coconut, sea salt and macadamia nuts to create a chocolate bar that evokes a tropical Hawaiian vacation. The coconut adds incredible, crackly texture, and unlike with the Peanut Butter Delight, you can really taste the sea salt here, elevating the flavor of the macadamias to beautifully complement the chocolate. I also found this to be the sweetest of the JoJo's flavors, so if you need that in your dark chocolate bar, this one might be your perfect match.

Raspberry Dream

If you love the bright, tart taste of freeze-dried raspberries, you can't go wrong with JoJo's Raspberry Dream flavor. The almost sour berry taste pairs delightfully with the slightly sweet flavor of the dark chocolate, with the added crunch of pistachios and almonds mixed in for additional well-roundedness and texture. It's a captivating and delicious bar, and I couldn't get enough of it.

Bottom Line

I have a major sweet tooth, and while JoJo's probably won't completely replace my favorite sugar-packed chocolate bars, it's an awesome supplement to them that'll occasionally help me snack without the guilt. I love that every one of their flavors offers something completely different, and at $10 or $11 per bag of seven bars, they don't completely break the bank, either.

However, if you don't already love high-cocoa chocolate, I don't think they're going to do much to convert you to the dark side. But if you're a dark chocolate-lover, JoJo's just might become your new favorite chocolate bar.
