Singer-Songwriter and TikTok Phenom Jordi Talks ‘Just a Friend’ and Trusting Her Gut
Singer-songwriter, dancer and TikTok sensation Jordi's debut single, "Hate You," was one of those songs that's a viral hit before it even officially drops, and its follow-up, "Just a Friend," is proving to be just as big.
The soulful, R&B-infused pop track is all about finding your own confidence in the face of being lied to and knowing your own strength and worth, even when someone isn't faithful to you. It's fresh, playful and all-too-relevant to many of us—making it clear why the 20-year-old artist has more than 10 million followers on TikTok alone. We had the pleasure of catching up with Jordi to learn more about the song and precisely what it means to her, and she shared it all with us in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Just a Friend'
Jordi: I wrote this song after having the feeling that this girl I was told was "just a friend" was definitely something more to him. I actually wrote the song a couple days before finding out I was right.

What 'Just a Friend' Means
Jordi: This song was kind of a prequel to my song "Hate You," in a way. I was expressing how stupid this boy was making me feel while I honestly already knew the truth. "Just a Friend" is a song that embodies the playful confidence of knowing your worth while also acknowledging that your gut feeling is always right.

Jordi's Favorite Lyric
One of my favorites is, "You say she's just a friend yeah she's like a sister, saw the family photos guess I must've missed her."
On the Music Video
Jordi: The video takes place on the set of my music video being filmed, after getting through hair and makeup and all the hassle of production It shows him trying to win me back.
One of my favorite things about this video was that my sister Taylor choreographed it and got to be in the video. It was so cool getting to share something so special with my family involved. My dancers and co-star were genuinely lovely people to work with. We were all goofing around between takes.
