Since 1950 kids have brought UNICEF collection boxes along with them on Halloween as they go trick-or-treating, raising more than $170 million! Not only does the program raise money for kids who need it, but it teaches the participants how good it feels to make a difference.
"Did you know that this Halloween, you can help save kids' lives?" Laura asks kids in a PSA for the new campaign. "By trick-or-treating for UNICEF, you can raise money that will help buy life-saving medicine, clean water, and nutrition, for kids in need around the world. All you have to do is join the Kids Helping Kids Movement and trick-or-treat for UNICEF."
Laura is also a part of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF School Challenge, in which teachers inform their students about the needs of kids in other countries and how important it is to give what you can.
Teachers can track their students' progress through videos and pictures for the campaign. Five grand-prize winners will be chosen and get the chance to go to Tanzania in East Africa to see the program benefit kids in need. They'll also get a $1000 classroom grant!
"Kids like you have helped UNICEF provide food, immunizations, school supplies, tents and blankets in emergencies, and much much more in 190 countries and territories around the globe," Laura adds in her video. "That means millions of lives saved and changed for the better. Kids really do have the power to change the world.
