Lindsey Lomis Captures the Vulnerability of Falling for Someone New in ‘Long Way Down’

21-year-old pop singer-songwriter Lindsey Lomis just announced that her highly anticipated EP, Handle With Care, is set to drop on March 29, and we've already marked our calendars.

The coming-of-age EP promises to explore romance and the sometimes blissful, sometimes terrifying two-way streets that are love and trust, and Lindsey's new single, "Long Way Down," is the perfect sneak peek at what's to come. It's a heartfelt pop anthem about immediately falling hard for someone new—so hard that you fear coming down from those feelings. As soon as we heard it, we had to learn more, and Lindsey was kind enough to catch up with us and dish on the song, the EP and her upcoming tour in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'Long Way Down'

Lindsey Lomis: "Long Way Down" is about a very special date I went on. This guy took me up to the roof of his New York apartment (so romantic right?) and we had the most perfect night. I felt my hopes getting higher and higher with each thing he did. I just remember looking down at the Lower East Side pavement a couple hundred feet below us, thinking about how hard I was falling for this guy and how much it was gonna hurt when I landed. I didn't want him to let me down.

What 'Long Way Down' Means

LL: Falling for someone is scary. It's vulnerable and it's a leap of faith and it doesn't get easier. But sometimes you gotta trust that someone will catch you, or you won't get to experience the best parts of taking that risk in the first place. I fell for this guy one September and now we've been together ever since. Sometimes you gotta (metaphorically) take the jump.

Lindsey's Favorite Lyric

LL: The verse two lyric: "I hate that my heart is beating out of my chest close to jumping off of the edge when you say my name and no one can save it" comes to mind, because I love the imagery of my heart being the thing that takes the first leap. It's a playful way of saying "thinking with my heart before my head."

On Kicking Off 2024

LL: To me, this is such an intro song. It's dramatic. It feels powerful yet vulnerable. It really sets the tone for this next project. It also happens to be the first song on the Handle With Care EP, coming out March 29.

On the EP

LL: The Handle With Care EP covers a lot of anxious emotions towards opening up to someone and finally allowing yourself to get close to them. This song is about admitting how much someone means to you, how much you're falling for them, and how much it'll hurt if they let go. It's desperate and yearning and honest.

What's Next

LL: 2024 has a lot in store (whoa, that rhymes). It's an incredible privilege to type what I'm about to type: I'm playing in the legend Jacob Collier's band on tour all year this year! This is so new and exciting for me. I've already learned so much in the process of preparing. I cannot wait to experience these shows every night and to see all that this tour brings! I will obviously continue to focus on my artist project as well… so I'll be doing a ton of writing and recording and experimenting with new music this year!
