LØLØ Shares The True Story of Toxic Obsession Behind Her New Single, ‘2 of us’
If you've ever felt trapped in a toxic relationship, Canadian rock singer-songwriter LØLØ has the song for you in 2024.
Her first single of the year comes in the form of "2 of us," an angst-ridden yet irresistible pop-punk track about how tough it can be to cut off a relationship, even when you know it's bad for you. With its anthemic, buzzy sound, playful lyricism and snarky wordplay, it's the perfect track for kicking off the new year, and we had the pleasure of catching up with LØLØ to get her insights into the true story that inspired it and what's next.
The Story Behind '2 of us'
LØLØ: Unfortunately, it is based on a real-life relationship lol. It's about feeling stuck pining over a relationship with someone that you know isn't good for you, but you still can't stop thinking about them anyway. I kept getting disappointed and let down by someone, time after time, but for some reason, I would still go back. This person made my blood boil, but at the end of the day, I was also obsessed with them. It was a very s****y situation, to say the least.
What '2 of us' Means
LØLØ: To me, the song is kind of like giving in and admitting defeat. I'm like, okay—you're dumb, but I'm still here, so I guess I'm dumb as well. At the same time, the lyrics are also pretty sassy. I hope my listeners find joy in that and are able to scream-sing the lyrics as any form of therapy.

LØLØ's Favorite Lyric
LØLØ: "Don't worry darling, you still make me wet… when tears roll down my eyes onto my cheeks onto my chest," because I think that's just simply hilarious.
On Kicking Off 2024
LØLØ: I felt like this track would start a new year of releases off strong— it's a bit different from my past stuff, but I think that's cool. It just felt right!

One Fun Fact
LØLØ: I wrote this song the day before I wrote "hot girls in hell," and it's about the exact same person.
