If You’re Not Using Lush’s Self-Preserving Products, Here’s Why You Should Start

Bath bombs, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner, Lush just has just about every cleansing product a girl needs. I would know, I've tested practically every item on Lush's roster.

But the most important products, and ones we need to all start using, are their self-preserving cosmetics.

Before we get into these items, let's talk about what self-preserving means.

According to Lush, more than 65% of their products can be classified as self-preserving because there are no synthetic preservatives added to maintain their freshness.

So why does this matter? Good question! I wondered the same thing. When synthetic preservatives are washed down the drain, they're added to the water supply, which can be pretty dangerous in the long run.

Wanting to do some good for my body and the environment, I splurged on a ton of self-preserving products.

From left to right, here's a rundown of what I hauled away:

The thought of using solid shampoo and conditioner and tooth tabs instead of toothpaste was a bit strange. After giving all of these products a go, I was thoroughly impressed with how well they delivered.

Of all the items I used, there were three that stood out above the rest.

The first is the Dark Angels Face and Body Cleanser. First off, love the name. I'm pretty sure it was named after me, but that's still to be debated.

Because I have oily skin, I'm constantly on the lookout for skincare products that will tone down my shine. This charcoal scrub made that promise and totally delivered. And it didn't leave my skin feeling rough or irritated after using it, which can sometimes happen with other charcoal products. Plus, I only had to use a pea-sized amount with a bit of water to cover my whole face. I'll definitely be using this product for the rest of my life.

The second item on my list of faves is the Dirty Toothy Tabs. I have never used these before, and I was a bit hesitant to do so, but I'm so glad I did.

Leaving my mouth feeling fresh and clean, I'm pretty sure they cut down the time I spend on my typical morning routine. How? I'm not sure, but I don't think I'll go back to regular toothpaste after using these bad boys.

The last and total standout on this list is the No Drought Dry Shampoo. Oh my gosh, it's amazing.

I've had a bad history with dry shampoo. It just never seems to work as well as it should, but Lush's powdery version of the product totally did the job and then some. Smelling like a fresh grapefruit, it left behind no residue, but soaked up all the oil in my hair.

I no longer want to wash my hair just so I can use this dry shampoo everyday from here on out.

I'm really happy with my self-preserving Lush products experience, and I strongly encourage all of you to swap out some of your everyday items with these.

They're good for you and they're great for the environment. What more could you ask for?

Another Lush product I'm a huge fan of is their henna hair dyes. HERE's what went down when I put them to the test.
