How to Make the Most of a Three-Day Weekend

Ah, Memorial Day Weekend—a time to honor those who've served for our country, while also getting an extra day to do whatever the heck we want.

Three-day weekends don't occur very often, so it's imperative that you make the most of the added time you have.

If you're not sure where to begin, we're here to help you out by revealing just how to make the most of Memorial Day Weekend below.

Plan

This weekend will without a doubt go to waste if you don't plan anything. Reach out to your besties and talk to your family to make some solid plans. If nothing is set in stone, nothing will happen, trust us. That's just the way of the world when it comes to three-day weekends. You need to be on top of it, so what are you waiting for? Make your plans before it's too late!

Throw a Pool Party

For the most part, Memorial Day Weekend signifies the beginning of summer. What better way to welcome this beloved season than by throwing a pool party with your closest friends? Heck, invite the whole school while you're at it. Blow up the pool floaties, make a killer playlist, grab some snacks and refreshments and throw the sickest pool party your classmates will ever attend.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 - School's out for summer and now, the competition moves from the fields of high school to the lawns of high society -- also known as the Country Club, not coincidentally founded by Sharpay's grandfather. When the other East High students get summer jobs there, before long, they face off over the country club's annual mid-summer's night musical production, on "High School Musical 2," airing on FRIDAY, AUGUST 17 (8:00 P.M. ET/PT) on Disney Channel. (DISNEY CHANNEL/ADAM LARKEY)

Go on a Shopping Spree

As with most three-day weekends, Memorial Day hosts some pretty amazing sales at your fave shops both online and in-store. You may have had your eye on a chic new purse or a fancy pair of booties. Now's the time to grab them, because chances are you'll catch them at the lowest prices they'll ever be marked. Your mom probably wouldn't mind accompanying you on a trip to the mall, because you know she wants to get the most out of these short-lived sales, too.

Take a Trip

Either with your family or friends, hit up some place you've always wanted to visit, but never got the chance to—within reason, of course. If you live in California, a trip to New York may be a little too hectic for a three-day weekend. Make sure your trip is no longer than a six-hour drive. You'll have an extra day to enjoy the sights or recuperate from your trip. Where will you go?

Unplug

Turn off the notifications on your phone and just retreat into nature for a bit. You can even leave your phone at home if you chose to go to the beach or for a hike. Keeping up on social media too often can get you down, so use your three-day weekend to take a break from all of it. You'll feel utterly refreshed and ready to take on the short week ahead.

Catch Up on Sleep

Chances are you've been pretty busy with life, haven't we all? If life's got you down and you don't want to make plans with anyone, use this weekend to sleep in and take all the naps you need. The world can be a tough place, so if you need to take a step back from it over these three days, go ahead and do it.
