Meet Marti Kass–the Fem, Boho Style Blogger and Actress From La La Land
Growing up in La La Land isn't all sunshine and superstars—or is it?
Meet Los Angeles, California, native Marti Kass, an uber feminine, bohemian style blogger and budding actress, who calls Hollywood home. Marti has styling skills and brains well beyond high school. Perhaps it's because her mom seems like the coolest parent out there (she sews her clothes and shoots her blog photos), or the fact that Marti gets to sit at table reads with big time actors and producers. Even so, Marti has that old soul spirit and incredible advice that immediately draws you in.
One scroll through her gorgeous Instagram feed and you'll instantly notice Marti's California blonde locks and laid-back boho style, synonymous with the city's endlessly enviable weather forecast. Below, she shares with Sweety High how she stays true to herself, ignores the mean girls and has never had a style icon.

1. What's the one moment that made you obsessed with style?
"I feel like I don't really have one moment where the world disappeared and it was just me and a shining piece of clothing, but rather something that's always just been a part of me. I've always loved being creative, and clothing is one way to be creative for me. Also, my mom has always been a very creative person, and would sew me my own outfits as a kid—I know, I know, my mom wins. Once I had a tricycle day at preschool, where we all rode them around the school (it was a big deal), so naturally my mom made me an outfit with little bikes on it. So I think it's safe to say my mom's had a huge influence on my love for style. I also have a passion for style because it can have a huge influence on my day. Putting even just a little effort into my outfits each day can change my mood and make me feel just a tad better about my day."-Marti Kass
2. Tell us about your style. Who and what inspires it?
"My style is definitely a mix of feminine and bohemian the majority of the time, but that's not to say I don't rock a T-shirt and leggings every now and then. I've never really had 'style icons,' even though there are a lot of people I think who have great style. If I had to choose someone I currently really admire, it would be Ashley, a-k-a Best Dressed on YouTube. She also has a feminine style similar to mine, which I adore, and she really knows how to style and pair outfits. I learn so much from her videos.However, I feel like my style is more inspired by how I feel in my clothing. If I feel comfortable and confident in an outfit, it's going to show, and I want my clothing to be an extension of who I am. Who doesn't want to feel comfortable and confident?"-Marti Kass
3. Who takes your photos? How long is an average 'photoshoot'?
"I'm lucky that my mom takes my photos! We try to fit as many outfits into one photoshoot as we can, so that can take a while. Also, including travel to go to different locations, especially with L.A. traffic, it can really add up. Not to mention the actual getting ready part for the pictures. So all in all, photoshoots can take a few hours!"-Marti Kass
"I'd go with my favorite denim jeans and a blouse to keep it simple and not overthink it. Overthinking an outfit can waste a good 20 minutes of time that I don't have when running late, and results in a huge mess for me to clean up later. But I would add a belt, hair scarf, jewelry, or statement shoes to still have a little something something to the outfit and to enhance a simple jeans and T-shirt look."-Marti Kass
5. What's the best piece of advice you've been given, and from whom?
"There's so much I could share, but one that I think is fitting with what else I've been talking about… is to not change yourself because others want you to, or because they don't understand you and your style. This one came from my brilliant mom. It's also something I've definitely struggled with before. I've always been myself and never let anyone get in the way of that, but that doesn't mean it's always been easy. There have been mean girls and guys, who always have something to say about what I do. Does it really matter to you if I am wearing a yellow skirt? Is that really that groundbreaking? No.At the end of the day, my mom always reminds me to make the best decision for myself, and that's something I'll never regret doing. But changing for the sake of someone else? That's something I may regret. We are all made uniquely and are made to be our own individuals, so why hide that? Who knows what your quirk, or what someone else deems as 'not cool,' may do. Maybe you'll make someone's day."-Marti Kass
"I once found this fringe vest on sale at Free People. I didn't know what I would wear it with, but I knew I needed it in my closet. I ended up wearing it to a Sam Hunt concert, which I felt was the perfect occasion. Now it's kind of just eye candy in my closet, as it isn't my everyday style. I think a lot of people have that one piece of clothing they never wear, but can't bare to part with—that would be my dear fringe vest."-Marti Kass
7. What's one thing you want everyone to know about you?
"I am an actress! I've been working in the entertainment business since I was about 6-years-old, doing different commercials, films and T.V. shows. Currently, I've expanded my skills to producing table reads for writers and their scripts. It's been something that's been really rewarding, and has helped me as an actress. I've gotten to meet so many other great people in the industry and bring a story world to life, which, to me… there's nothing better."-Marti Kass
8. What have you learned about blogging that you would share with other bloggers or aspiring bloggers?
"There will be highs and lows, but don't beat yourself up when you're in the valleys. How can you appreciate the hills, or the good, if you've never had to work to get up there? The hard work is worth it, and you may just learn some new things about yourself. Be proud of yourself and where you're at."-Marti Kass
9. What is your current skincare routine?
"This is one I've definitely struggled with this year… I started to get acne, which I never had to deal with. Before even starting with products, I strongly recommend checking your vitamin D levels. For me, that's been the key to healthier skin. Yes, there are so many other things you can do for your skin, but most of it left me more frustrated than before. Also, acne is such a case by case issue that it can be so hard to figure out what is wrong for each individual. Once my vitamin D levels started to go up, my skin started to clear up.As for my actual skincare routine, I use a Clarisonic with an Aveeno face cleanser, and I use Aveeno's moisturizer as well. I personally keep it simple because my skin can be sensitive! Every now and then I use a face scrub from St. Ives or a random mask from Lush. However, it took me many trial and errors to get to my skincare now. I once had swollen eyes for weeks because I didn't realize my cleanser was bothering my skin… Yikes!-Marti Kass
10. What is your go-to makeup look?
"My day to day makeup includes: Tarte clay-based foundation, Tarte shape tape concealer, Morphe bronzer/highlight, either Tarte or Morphe blush, Anastasia brow powder, and whatever mascara I have laying around at the time. I still haven't found one mascara that I personally love. I'm not the best at makeup, so I tend to just keep it super simple. I feel like I'm forgetting something, but that's how I feel everyday after doing my makeup."-Marti Kass
