Everything We Know So Far About Mary Poppins Returns
Ladies and gentleman, please prepare your umbrellas for takeoff—Mary Poppins is back!
Fans tuning into the 90th Academy Awards last night got an extra special surprise when Disney premiered their teaser trailer for the Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.
The film is set to premiere this Christmas Day. Because the trailer was released so far in advance, it didn't give away too many details about the return of our favorite magical nanny. However, we did get a small glimpse into the new and improved world of Mary Poppins.
The trailer starts with an ominous wind blowing through the streets of London, eventually causing a kite to blow out of the trashcan and through the stormy streets. Amidst the blowing winds and stormy skies, Mary Poppins floats down, this time replacing her signature umbrella with a kite that's perfectly controlled in the blowing winds.
The Mary Poppins revival character is played by the stunning Emily Blunt, who closes the trailer by looking in the mirror, acknowledging how wonderful it is that she's back in town. And we couldn't agree more!
The new story centers again around Michael and Jane, who are now adults living in London during the Great Depression. Michael is now a widower with three children of his own, whom Jane helps him care for. The story centers around the duo's struggle with an unforgiving bank manager, but the return of Mary Poppins turns their world upside down.
Although they're not all shown in the teaser trailer, Emily Blunt will be joined by an all-star cast of some of our favorite celebrities. Lin-Manuel Miranda—the stunning star of Hamilton and composer of some of our favorite Moana songs—plays Lamplighter Jack, an apprentice to Bert, the chimney sweep who is fully aware of Mary Poppins' magical powers. Meryl Streep joins the cast as Mary's cousin Topsy, Angela Lansbury appears as a balloon seller and Dick Van Dyke will even make an appearance as a bank chairman.
With a stunning cast and an intricate storyline, we're definitely adding this sequel to our list of must-see movies in 2018!
We're pretty committed to our fictional characters, so much that we wish we could see some of them perform live. If you're like us, click HERE to see fictional musicians that we'd give anything to see in concert.
