The Definitive Ranking of McDonald’s Breakfast Items
Not all breakfasts are created equal.
McDonald's has a pretty extensive breakfast menu, and though it's great to have options, so many choices can get overwhelming. You probably don't want to make the wrong choice for the most important meal of the day, so here's our definitive ranking of everything on McDonald's breakfast menu.
17. Fruit & Maple Oatmeal
It's hard to make 0atmeal exciting, and McDonald's fruit and maple variety is no exception. It's a pretty watery oatmeal, and no amount of maple flavoring, crispy apples and raisins can elevate it above this bottom spot.
16. Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit
This item has all the elements of a great breakfast, but it falls short for us. We can't complain about the bacon or cheese, but the big omelet-style egg overwhelms the sandwich, and McDonald's biscuits start out fluffy and delicious, but within moments they grow hard and dry. After just a few bites, we're too stuffed to continue.
15. Sausage Biscuit With Egg
Like we mentioned above, we're not giant fans of the biscuit or the type of egg served inside. However, Mcdonald's sausage is delicious and brings this a step up from the bacon variety.
14. Sausage Burrito
McDonald's didn't need a breakfast burrito on their menu, but they have one anyway. It's small, filled with egg and sausage and won't bog you down too much, but we'd rather go for a McDonald's signature than waste time on this.
13. Bacon, Egg & Cheese Bagel
While we usually admire a bagel sandwich, this one doesn't offset the big ol' bagel with enough bacon, egg or cheese to make it worthwhile. The bagel tastes alright, but the star should be the ingredients inside.
12. Sausage Biscuit
Again, McDonald's doesn't have our favorite biscuits in the world. However, when paired with their tasty sausage, we think it's a lot more palatable. Just eat it fast before the biscuit completely dries up.
11. Hash Browns
These are the ultimate fast food hash browns. They're incredibly greasy, but they've got the perfect amount of crunch and texture. Add a little salt and they become even better.
10. Steak, Egg & Cheese Biscuit
We're not sure why McDonald's has steak on their breakfast menu, but we're not mad at it. In addition to egg and cheese, the steak patty is topped with sweet and savory grilled onions that make this sandwich bizarrely tasty. They even pair well with the dry biscuit. Just don't expect to get much down after scarfing this.
9. Sausage McMuffin With Egg
Here's where we get into the really good stuff. We love the signature round egg that goes on McMuffins, and it's a great textural match for sausage and cheese on top of a crispy English muffin.
8. Egg White Delight McMuffin
Is it weird that this "healthy" option is actually really tasty? The egg white blends nicely with the sharp white cheese, and you can't fault an English muffin paired with Canadian bacon. It's like a reformatted egg's Benedict.
7. Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfait
It might be a little unexpected, but we love this breakfast parfait. It's tough to take issue with vanilla yogurt mixed topped with granola, blueberries and strawberries. And if you want to feel bright and ready for the day after a McDonald's breakfast, this is probably the way to go.
6. Sausage McMuffin
Sometimes, simpler is better. We happen to prefer the classic sausage McMuffin without the egg. You might be surprised to find it's still as crispy and delicious as ever.
5. Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddles
McGriddles are basically sandwiches with fluffy, syrup-injected hotcakes as the buns, and they're extremely good. The maple flavor contrasts nicely with the sharpness of the cheese and the saltiness of the bacon—but they can get even better.
4. Egg McMuffin
It's not easy to beat the classic McMuffin. With egg, Canadian bacon and cheese on an English muffin, it's got a lot of different textures working together in perfect harmony to create a super delicious sandwich.
3. Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddles
Everything about a McGriddles sandwich gets even better when you swap the bacon for sausage. We believe sausage and syrup are a match made in heaven. The eggs and cheese are alright, too.
2. Sausage McGriddles
Like we've mentioned before, sometimes you can add to a recipe by taking something away. The simple combination of syrupy bread and beautifully seasoned sausage makes this our ultimate breakfast sandwich.
1. Hotcakes
McDonald's has the best hotcakes, hands down. We'd actually pick these above pancakes that cost five times as much at a sit-down restaurant. They're sweet to begin with, but with the addition of salty butter and syrup, they're absolutely heavenly.
