How Morgan Saint Captured Snapshots of Her Ever-Evolving Self With Debut Album, Out of the Blue
Morgan Saint's debut album, Out of the Blue, has been one of our most eagerly anticipated albums of 2025, and it's precisely what we needed this Valentine's Day.
Over 11 tracks, the album serves as a record of the singer-songwriter and producer's evolution, both as a human being and as a creative force. The title, Out of the Blue, wasn't ever meant to capture just one idea, exploring everything from the suddenness of falling in love to the unpredictable peace and violence of the ocean to the pure blueness of being sad. It's a vulnerable album of self-discovery, brought to life with a dreamy and cinematic electro-pop sound. To us, it feels like a true coming-of-age story at every turn.
Further, listeners can feel the love poured into every aspect of the album, as everything from the writing, production and engineering to the visuals of the artwork and music videos, was developed with Morgan's wife and frequent collaborator, artist Carley Ridersleeve. Ahead of today's big release, we had the pleasure of speaking with Morgan to learn more about the album and everything it means to her. Get the full story in the interview below.
Sweety High: What does the album title Out of the Blue mean to you? Why did that title track feel like the perfect summation of this group of songs?
Morgan Saint: It has a few meanings to me. It's about what falling in love feels to me—sudden like a bolt of lightning. It's about coming out of a sad (blue) place. I also really love the water. I grew up surrounded by it. What I find so fascinating about water is that it can be so calm and healing, yet so aggressive and dangerous—it's so alive. So the blue in the title represents the ocean to me… it's very emotional, just like me.

SH: What do you feel are the overarching themes of the album? What kind of feel do you hope fans take away from it?
MS: Light, love, freedom, angst, mourning, romance. I don't like to put in a box, what the album should feel like to my fans. It will be a different experience for everyone! I just hope people feel something from it.
SH: How would you describe the album's sound? Production-wise, how did you go about bringing these tracks to life?
MS: I'm sure everyone who listens will hear it differently, but when I was making it, I kept finding myself at the beach in my head. Sometimes I'd be there at night by myself and the moon was huge and reflecting off of the water. Other times, the sun has just slipped down below the horizon and it felt more like a party. I grew up surrounded by water… literally my parent's house is right on the water, so yeah, I just kept coming back to the beach for some reason.
Production-wise, it was honestly just experimenting and following my gut. I'm really into sound design, synths and rhythm, while Carley is amazing at guitar, structure and organization, so we both leaned into our strong suits. I'm dreamy, so Carley really keeps me grounded. A lot of the time, we are both playing an instrument until we stumble on something interesting. Other times, we're taking turns recording things. There's a lot of talking things through and a lot of trying and re-trying different things. The whole album was made entirely by Carley and I in different bedrooms as we moved around between New York and South Carolina.

SH: How do you feel that these songs represent where you are in life right now?
MS: Well, a lot of it actually feels like past versions of myself since I've made it over the past few years. I'm the type of person that is endlessly exploring and evolving, so I feel like a new version of myself every day. Although I would say that I feel really close to myself right now and I think that sense of self is reflected in the music!

SH: What is your favorite song on the album? Why?
MS: I don't play favorites! But this week I've been vibing with "Out Of The Blue" and "Deep." Maybe it's because they were the last two songs that we finished. They really seem to blend together a lot of different things I like sonically.
SH: Was there anything that surprised you about the process of recording and putting together your debut album?
MS: Oh gosh, endless things! I'll be honest, while making an album by yourself is very freeing, it's also extremely challenging and can be pretty torturous at times. There are so many layers of things you have to understand and be able to physically do to even make a song, so when it's all on you, there are constantly new things to learn and issues to resolve. This was also my first time releasing on my own label, so aside from the music and visuals, I was also building a new team around me and starting a whole other new business. So yeah, that added a whole new layer of surprises as well!

SH: How are you feeling about releasing it to the world?
MS: I feel good. Very ready!
SH: Is there anything else we should know about Out of the Blue?
MS: I just want people to know that I literally made everything you see and hear for this whole project—every instrument, every visual, all of the styling, editing, coloring, etc… I also want to say that this album would not be what it is without the help of my wife Carley, my family and my amazing team!
