A Definitive Ranking of the Most Heartbreaking Celebrity Breakups This Summer

There's nothing like a painful celebrity  breakup to make you question if love even exists.

This summer, we experienced quite a handful of 'em. More than we were prepared for, honestly.

Just as quickly as these couples got together and made us believe in love, they promptly ripped out our hearts with their splits. Some were more difficult to deal with than others, which is why we decided to rank them.

Who will top the list? Scroll below to find out. But first, grab a box of tissues.

7. Lucy Hale and Riley Smith

Lucy Hale and Riley Smith met while filming The CW's Life Sentence, and a relationship quickly blossomed between the costars. When the show was canceled in May, their relationship was next to end shortly thereafter. While they didn't last long, we were really hoping this guy was the one for Lucy. Maybe she'll fall for her next costar?

6. Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet

Another short-lived romance of 2018, Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet's relationship was over as quickly as it began. After just a few short months together, the couple called it quits. They kept their partnership pretty low key, but we're big fans of an unlikely pairing finding their way to one another.

5. Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima

Of all the Kardashian and Jenner sisters, Kourtney Kardashian has always been our fave. She keeps it real and is by far the funniest one of all. After witnessing her relationship drama with Scott Disick, we were happy to see her fall in love with model Younes Bendjima. Then it all came crashing down. Kourtney seems to be handling the breakup rather well, and we couldn't be more proud of her for staying strong. His loss!

4. Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn

We were really rooting for Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn, but we guess all good things must come to an end. Their relationship lasted nine months, but allegedly ended due to their busy schedules. If you love something, you really do need to set it free. We're probably being way too optimistic, but we think they'll find their way back to one another in the future. And if not, Sam will hopefully write one heck of an emotional record because of the breakup.

3. Millie Bobby Brown and Jacob Sartorius

Millie Bobby Brown and Jacob Sartorius set our hearts aflutter with their sweet teen romance this year. Due to their hectic schedules, these two little lovebirds ended their relationship at the end of July. They each posted a message on their Instagram Stories announcing their split, stating it was mutual and they'd remain friends. Though they're young and will easily find love again, we're not sure we can handle seeing them with other people.

2. Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole

When the news that Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole split, it was almost as tough to deal with as One Direction's breakup. Hey, we said almost. The pair started dating in 2015 and had a child together in 2017. In July of this year, they announced the end of their relationship with a message on Twitter—revealing they have lots of love for one another and their son, Bear.

1. Halsey and G-Eazy

Despite apparently getting back together recently, Halsey and G-Eazy's split was the biggest breakup shock of them all so far. We were (and still are) convinced these two are soulmates in every which way, which made it so incredibly difficult to learn their relationship had ended. It apparently wasn't that great of an ending either, with rumors swirling that G-Eazy cheated on Halsey. We don't condone that sort of behavior, nor should we really have a say in what goes on in their romantic lives, but we really do wish them nothing but the best and hope that what seems like their second shot at love means they're in it for the long haul!

These celeb breakups were rough, but they've got nothing on THESE truly most gut-wrenching YouTube breakups of all time.
