Which Movie Should You See With Your Mom on Mother’s Day 2019?
If your mom loves going to the movies, taking her to see a film she'll enjoy is a great way to spend Mother's Day together.
From there, the tricky part is deciding which movie you should actually watch together. Should it be something funny, or emotional, or full of action? If you need a little bit of guidance, this list will help you find just the movie to satisfy your unique mom.
Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame won't be for all moms, but if your mother is experienced with all things MCU, it could make for an action-packed, tear-filled Mother's Day romp. We don't want to tread into spoiler territory here, but the movie has some strong themes regarding the bond between parents and their children, making it just right for the special day. And even if she can't always keep up with the plot, at least there will be a variety of hunky Avengers for her to admire.

Breakthrough
Breakthrough is based on a true story and tells the tale of mom's unwavering faith after her teenage son falls into a coma after an accident. It's at times moving, tragic and uplifting, and at its core, it's a movie about the love of a mom and her power to make anything possible. If you're looking for a good cry and a Mom's Day story that's all about motherhood, this might be the pick for you.

Captain Marvel
If your mom cheered during Wonder Woman, we'll bet money that she'll also adore the empowering superhero story in Captain Marvel. Not only are Carol Danvers' fiery heroics something we can all aspire to, but the movie is fun and accessible—meaning you don't really need to know anything about the other Marvel movies to jump right into the story. Plus, the film's '90s playlist will surprise her and fill her with all kinds of nostalgia. It's a win-win for everyone involved.

Detective Pikachu
While some moms have zero interest in seeing a movie about Pikachu, others are the O.G. Pokémon trainers from the '90s and can't wait to check out the series' first foray into live-action. Even if your own mother is ambivalent, she'll probably be won over by the film's sharp humor and adorable creatures. Detective Pikachu is particularly irresistible, and it definitely helps that he's voiced by Ryan Reynolds.

Dumbo
If your mom is a massive fan of the classic animated Dumbo movie, it's likely she'll love to see the story retold with a little Tim Burton flair on the big screen. The floppy-eared elephant is just as lovable as ever in a more photorealistic setting, and the relationship between Dumbo and his mom, Mrs. Jumbo, is perfect Mother's Day fare.

The Hustle
The Hustle is a great Mother's Day pick for the mom who loves a good laugh (plus a revenge story thrown in for good measure). The comedy stars Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway as two con artists from very different worlds who decide to get even after they're conned themselves by two men. If your mom is a fan of either actress, we think she'll be in for a great time.

Little
If you think your mom's been under a lot of pressure, the escapism in Little might be just the thing to help her decompress. Jordan Sanders had a tough time in school when she was a kid, but now that she's a bigwig tech CEO, she's the one giving others a tough time. It's not long before a bit of magic transforms her back into a kid, forcing Jordan to relive the childhood that made her miserable, allowing her to gain back a little bit of her humanity along the way.

Penguins
For the mom who loves animals and nature documentaries, there's Disneynature's Penguins. The movie follows an Adélie penguin dubbed Steve, and his journey growing up in the Antarctic and establishing a family of his own. Not only is it a gorgeously shot hero's journey, but it's also narrated by Ed Helms, in case your mom happens to be a fan of The Office.

Poms
Whether your mom has the spirit of a cheerleader or just loves to see women achieve their dreams, she's going to fall in love with Poms. When Martha moves into a retirement community, she decides to finally go after what she's always wanted—by forming a cheer squad with her fellow residents. It's a movie about how it's never too late to snag your second chance or go after your goals.

Tolkien
If your mom was bored to death by the Lord of the Rings movies, you'll probably want to sit this one out. However, if she adored them, then chances are she'll also love discovering the true story of the series' author, J.R.R. Tolkien. It'll appeal to historical drama enthusiasts, with a romance at its core that'll completely win your mom's heart. And she probably won't mind staring at Nicholas Hoult the whole time, either.

Shazam!
If your mom prefers her superhero flicks light and fun, rather then dense and high-stakes, Shazam! will have the perfect balance of heartfelt emotion and funny moments to keep her happy. It follows Billy Batson, a teenage foster kid who gains the ability to transforms into a grown-up superhero by uttering a magic word. His childlike wonder always keeps the movie feeling fresh and exciting, even when a big bad villain threatens to take him down.
