10 Big Things Happening in Music the Week of Sept. 11, 2020

In an unpredictable world, it seems the one thing we can depend on week after week is that we'll be greeted with incredible new music.

And this week, in particular, was a doozy. From Johnny Orlando to Florida Georgia Line, Usher, Sia and Demi Lovato, it seems all of our faves were putting out solid new tracks—and that was just the start of it. Keep reading to discover the top ten things that happened in music this week.

1. Keedron Bryant Drops His Debut EP, I Just Wanna Live

13-year-old Keedron Bryant may be young, but he's making big waves in the music industry with the powerful messages inherent in his music. His first EP, I Just Wanna Live, dropped today, Sep. 11, after the single of the same name became a viral anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement. He also recently released a music video for his empowering song "U Got This," and we believe he's only getting started.

 

2. Singer Beabadoobee Releases New Single 'Worth It'

There's something nostalgic about the sound of singer-songwriter Beabadoobee, and her transcendent new single "Worth It" is no different. It released on Sep. 8 and is a relatable rock track about the scars and lingering memories left by a breakup, and what it takes to move on and begin living in the present. It's one of three singles from her upcoming debut album, Fake It Flowers, out Oct. 16.

 

3. Cassadee Pope Inspires With Fan Video for 'Rise and Shine'

Cassadee Pope's "Rise and Shine" was the title track on her recent acoustic album, and yesterday, she released a new fan-centric video for the emotional song. Cassadee asked fans to share their own stories of resilience and perseverance with her on social media, which were integrated into the heartfelt video. She released it during National Suicide Prevention Week, as the video also draws awareness and reduces stigma for mental health and suicide prevention.

 

4. At Long Last, Johnny Orlando Releases His 'Everybody Wants You' Music Video

Yesterday was the day that Johnny Orlando fans around the world had been waiting for, with both the new song, "Everybody Wants You," and its highly anticipated music video, dropping on the same day. The soft, soulful track is accentuated by the video's unique animation. "Everybody Wants You" will appear on Johnny's upcoming EP, which is set to release sometime in the fall.

 

5. Florida Georgia Line Ask Us to Live in the Moment With 'Long Live'

Wish the summer could last just that little bit longer? Florida Georgia Line's new single "Long Live" has a twangy country sound that'll make you feel like summer is just getting started. Appropriately, the song is an ode to all the little things in life that go under-appreciated, and celebrates the best times with the people you care about. The song released yesterday, alongside a lyric video to help you sing along.

 

6. Usher Returns to Form With New Single 'Bad Habits'

Usher is back in a big way—but did he ever really go anywhere? Yesterday, he dropped the first single off his upcoming studio album, "Bad Habits," as well as its captivating music video, as the follow up to last year's "Don't Waste My Time." If you've always loved Usher, you'll find "Bad Habits" to be an instant classic. Try to get this one out of your head.

 

7. Thomas Rhett Gets Yet Another No. 1 Single With 'Be a Light'

Thomas Rhett's "Be a Light" has all of the makings of a country music hit, so we're not all that surprised to find out it's the 16th No. 1 song he's had in his incredible career. For one, it's a song about positivity, helpfulness and inspiring others in a time when we all need it the most. Secondly, it also features country greats Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin and Keith Urban. What else could fans of the genre ask for?

 

8. David Guetta and Sia Release Their Latest Collab, 'Let's Love'

When David Guetta and Sia get together to make something new, you can almost guarantee it'll be a banger, and their latest collaborative work, "Let's Love," just might be their next "Titanium." The '80s tinged pop tune dropped yesterday alongside a lyric video with sleek CGI that blends that decade with a sleek cyberpunk aesthetic. These two have another hit on their hands.

 

9. Luh Kel Releases New Single, "Want You" Featuring Queen Naija

You'd never know from his voice and music that singer-songwriter Luh Kel is just 18 years old, as he's already making quite the name for himself. His single, "Want You" featuring Queen Naija, released yesterday and has all of the makings of a classic R&B love song. It'll be featured on his upcoming debut album, L.O.V.E. (Loss of Valuable Emotions) and we can't wait to hear what else it will have to offer.

 

10. Demi Lovato and Marshmello Team Up for 'OK Not to Be OK'

Here's another empowering anthem we can really get behind. Demi Lovato and Marshmello collaborated to bring us "OK Not to Be OK," a song about how we're all allowed to have feelings and not feel amazing all the time, and the power of accepting we'll all human and we'll get through it. Its release yesterday was also timed to National Suicide Prevention Week, but this is a track that's always going to be relevant. Not only does it have a great message, but it's also got a danceable beat and lyrics you'll want to belt out along with the song.
