10 Big Things That Happened in Music the Week of August 20, 2021

Another week has come and gone, and yet again, our favorite artists continue to wow us.

This week in particular was quite the doozy. With new tracks from Shawn Mendes, G-Eazy, Alesso and Lorde, it's safe to say all the big stars came out to play. Not sure what you should listen to? Keep scrolling for the 10 biggest things to happen in music the week of Aug. 20.

1. sad alex & Mike Collab on New Single, 'One That Got Away'

One of our favorite artists we've found through TikTok has to be sad alex. Her music is next level, and we're honestly shocked she doesn't have a bigger following! For her latest single, "One That Got Away," she collabed with Mike, who's another big star on TikTok. Together, the two created one breakup song we don't think we will ever get over. After all, everyone has a person who got away.

2. Runaway June Drops 3-Track EP backstory

After listening to Runaway June's EP backstory, it comes as absolutely no surprise to us that they're joining Luke Bryan on tour. The three-track EP takes you through the emotions of a breakup and love lost with "Down the Middle," "Forgot About That" and "T-Shirt." Our personal favorite is "T-Shirt" because of the powerful message about moving on. When asked about the EP, Runaway June told Sweety High: "These three songs tell the stories and paint the pictures of the heartbreak, joy and freedom that comes along with growing up and moving forward. They represent the road to loving yourself and ultimately someone else."

3. K-Pop Group CRAVITY Releases First Full-Length Album, The Awakening: Written in the Stars

One of the best K-pop groups to date has to be CRAVITY. The nine-member group finally released their first full-length album, The Awakening: Written in the Stars, and it's everything we could have hoped for and more. If you're into upbeat, pop music, you need to give this album a listen. "There are some songs on this album that might sound familiar to our fans," Allen of CRAVITY told Sweety High. "However, as we've constantly been experiencing different genres and sounds, this album also contains songs with a more punchy and gritty sound that might leave a heavier impact on our listeners."

4. G-Eazy Releases Hypnotic Track, 'Running Wild (Tumblr Girls 2)' feat. Kossisko

If you've been a fan of G-Eazy since his early days, you're probably familiar with his early hit, "Tumblr Girls." And if you liked that, then you're going to love his new track, "Running Wild (Tumblr Girls 2)". Featuring Kossisko, this song hits all the feels. It's hypnotic, soothing and when G-Eazy comes in to rap, trust us when we say you'll be floored.

5. JoJo's New Single 'Worst' Comes Before Forthcoming EP

JoJo is our forever girl crush not only because of her impeccable style but because of the jams she gives us time and time again. Her latest single, "Worst," just might be one of our favorites ever, and that's saying a lot. It's all about toxicity and the past and is something people will definitely relate to. This comes before her upcoming EP, Trying Not to Think About It, out Oct. 1. We don't know about you, but we're counting down the days.

6. Shawn Mendes Teams Up With Tainy for New Single, 'Summer of Love'

We've never been disappointed by any of the music Shawn Mendes has put out, and the same can be said for his latest single, "Summer of Love'" featuring Tainy. The music video is full of a smoking hot Shawn clad in stunning outfits, so don't be surprised if you drool a bit (no shame). "I hope this song makes people feel free, free from the weight of life, even if just for a moment," shared Shawn Mendes in a press release. "The inspiration was getting a few months off to have a real summer with the people I love. My favorite part about creating it was getting the opportunity to work in the studio with Tainy."

7. LANY Shares New Single 'Never Mind, Let's Break Up' Off Upcoming Album

LANY has been absolutely killing the music game lately with their recent releases. "Never Mind, Let's Break Up" is their new single, and we are in love. It has that typical LANY sound, and lead singer Paul Jason Klein's voice is as smooth and seductive as ever. If you've ever been in an on-again-off-again relationship before, we know you'll love this track. The melody itself makes us want to get up and dance—a great way to end an even better summer.

8. Ed Sheeran Drops New Hit Single 'Visiting Hours'

Raise your hand if you're a fan of the new and improved Ed Sheeran—we know we are. His new single, "Visiting Hours" is so soulful that it made us choke up. Featuring stunning lyrics by the artist himself and impressive background vocals, we truly can't get enough of this song. If you're in need of a good cry, we highly recommend listening to this. He wrote this after losing a friend, and the sincerity and emotions he went through truly shine in the lyrics themselves.

9. Alesso and Marshmello's New Song 'Chasing Stars' feat. James Bay Is an Instant Bop

In typical Alesso and Marshmello fashion, their latest song "Chasing Stars" is an instant bop. Featuring James Bay, the track allows the singer's stunning vocals to truly shine through. After listening to it a couple of times, we already know the lyrics to the chorus—it's that good. Plus, the music video is gold, as it features James playing a video store clerk going through VHS tapes. We won't give too much away, but it's full of some pretty witty twists.

10. Lorde Finally Unveils Third Studio Album, Solar Power

We would like to officially thank Lorde for finally giving us fans what we've been craving for years, a new album. Solar Power was dropped today, and it's so much better than what we were imagining. We knew it was going to be good, we just didn't know how good. One of our favorite songs from the album is "Mood Ring," and the accompanying music video is a must-watch. "The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors," Lorde shares in a press release. "In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learned to breathe out and tune in. This is what came through."
