Can you believe today marks the first day of July?
We truly don't know where the time goes, but you'll be excited to hear that this week brought not only a new month but some incredible new tunes. From fun summer jams to amazing music videos, there's a little something for everyone to enjoy. And after narrowing it down to our top 10, here is a list of the top 10 things that happened in music the week of July 1, 2022!
1. Anna of the North Releases Dreamy Single 'Dandelion'
Anna of the North is our artist of choice when we're looking for dreamy, indie beats, and her new single, "Dandelion," hits just right. The chorus will make you want to get up and sway to the beat of the music, and we think this song would be perfect in a show like The Summer I Turned Pretty. In a press release about the song, Anna said, "'Dandelion' is a song about lost love. The kind of love that can't stay for obvious reasons… Still there is hope that one day it'll work out."
2. CG5 Drops Stranger Things-Inspired Track 'Strangest Thing'
What do you get when a musical artist becomes obsessed with Stranger Things? You get a hit song! CG5 recently became enamored with the series and wanted to make a song as an ode to it. "Strangest Thing" was released today, July 1, just in time for the final episodes, which were also released today. The end result of the song is full of '80s beats and the music video is so good. It's reminiscent of the show and will bring a smile to your face. "When I wrote this song in the theme of Stranger Things, I wanted it to be interesting to anyone listening to the song—whether or not they were a fan of the show," CG5 shared with Sweety High. "So when you listen to the song, I want you to pretend that you're on a mysterious and exhilarating adventure. It's an immersive experience that I felt like I was having while I was making the song and recording the music video. I hope listeners feel that, too."

3. Dreamer Boy Unveils Broody New Single 'HUES'
When we first heard Dreamer Boy's new single "HUES," we thought he sounded just like Mac Miller—and that's a big compliment. "HUES" has such a beautiful backstory and we think anyone who gives it a listen will find the beauty in it. "Seeing your world change around you, being in and out of love, and seeing the good and bad from the person you are with is what HUES is about," Dreamer Boy says in a press release. "The actual idea of the walls changing colors as you are magnetically connected to a person but seeing how the good may be slipping away. This song represents the push and pull of that relationship, even after feeling used, and only being there for them, you end up back at their place falling into their world again."
4. 20-Year-Old Singer-Songwriter renforshort Releases New Song 'Julian, King of Manhattan'
renforshort absolutely adores Julias Casablancas, the lead singer of The Strokes, so she decided to make a song as an ode to him! Even if you're not familiar with The Strokes, we think you'll get a kick out of this song. In addition to the sweet message renforshort shares, the song itself is killer. It's giving indie-rock and we can't get enough. "It's one of my favourite songs ever," renforshort said in a press release. "When I wrote it, Jeff Hazin and I were only really listening to The Strokes and when we got into this session, I said I want to write a song for Julian Casablancas, 'cause I love him. The song could've gone a lot of ways but making it about being friends with him in a fantasy world. Sonically we were inspired by The Strokes to really pay homage to them –through the tone of the guitars and the effect on the vocals, I feel like we kinda achieved that!"
5. Deorro Shares Highly-Anticipated Sophomore Album, ORRO
L.A.-born producer Deorro just came out with his highly-anticipated sophomore album ORRO, and it's everything we could have hoped for and more. The album consists of a whopping 18 collaborators, and each song is as good as the next. "ORRO is all about rediscovering my love for music," Deorro said in a press release. "For a while, I thought I was going to quit and buy a taco truck. To fall back in love with music, I had to focus on who I really am and where I come from. That helped me dig into my Latin roots and made the process fun again. It's as if I was given a whole new canvas to create, especially with the doors that have opened now that Latin music has gone worldwide. It's a whole new path that I've taken, but this album is a true reflection of who I am and all that I love."
6. Daya Drops Stunning Music Video for 'Love You When You're Gone'
Have you ever been hung up on a person for the longest time, only to realize down the line that they actually kind of sucked as a human? Daya knows that feeling all too well, and she wrote a song about it! "Love You When You're Gone" will hit a lot of people in the gut thanks to its message and overall dreamy beat. "'Love You When You're Gone' was written in a period of time when I was experiencing overwhelming feelings of loneliness and nostalgia," Daya shared in a press release. "I found myself romanticizing a past relationship in a way that was almost willfully forgetting the reality of why it didn't work out in the end. I realized part of the reason I was holding on to the relationship for so long was because I was scared to face who I'd be and what my life would be like without it, and so it's about trying to let all that go and give myself the space and freedom to grow on my own."

7. Gryffin and MØ Join Forces for New Single 'Reckless'
Gryffin and MØ joined forces for the new single "Reckless," and we're calling it now—it's going to be this summer's biggest hit. You might recognize MØ's vocals—ever heard of the song "Lean On"? Yeah, we thought so! And we think this new collab with Gryffin is going to be just as good. The song is fun, easy-going and the perfect thing to listen to on a hot summer's day. "I'm so excited to share Reckless with you all." Gryffin shared in a press release. "MØ has been one of my favorite artists of all time, and I've always wanted to work on a song with her so this is a huge life goal achievement for me. This song has been two years in the making, and we finally felt like we nailed it. We wanted to make a song that was a pure spirited, summery, feel-good vibe and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Play this one loud with the windows rolled down."
8. Steve Aoki and KAAZE Team Up for 'Whole Again' feat. John Martin
When Steve Aoki isn't performing at clubs and throwing cakes in people's faces, he's creating incredible music, and his latest release with KAAZE is a must-listen. "Whole Again," featuring John Martin, is part of Steve Aoki's upcoming album HiROQUEST, out Sep. 16. The song is what we expect will be playing at clubs and pool parties this summer, so if you're into EDM, you will fall in love with this tune. "'Whole Again is the definitive dance track on HiROQUEST," Aoki shared in a press release. "It's an anthemic, soul-searching ballad that captures the multitudes of different emotions that many of us have experienced over the past few years. After working with KAAZE to lock down the production, we needed to find the right vocalist to really bring this song to life. I've been a fan of John Martin's ever since I heard him on 'Don't You Worry Child' and knew that he was the missing link to bring this song to the top."
9. Halsey Drops the Stripped-Down Version of 'So Good'
We've all heard Halsey's "So Good" by now. If you love the song as much as we do, you'll be very happy to hear that a stripped-down version was just released. And OMG, it slaps. If you're getting into Sad Girl Summer and just want a song that will make you cry, this stripped-down version is exactly what you need to listen to. It's arguably just as amazing as the original version, and we plan on listening to this the next time we feel hung up on our exes.

Sabrina Carpenter is a triple threat, and with the release of her new single, "Vicious," we've become even more obsessed with her. "Vicious" comes before the release of her new album, Emails I Can't Send, which is set to release on July 15, and if this song is any indication as to what the rest of the album sounds like, we are in for quite the treat. Her voice just sounds so ethereal and we can't stop listening to this banger of a song.
