10 Big Things That Happened in Music the Week of September 16, 2022

Some weeks in new music, releases can be underwhelming, but that is not the case this time around!

This week, there have been some truly amazing new musical releases, and it was next to impossible to narrow it down to a mere 10 acts! Interested in our faves? Here are the 10 big things that happened in music the week of Sep. 16, 2022.

1. Miloe Releases New EP and Music Video for 'rewin' Featuring PawPaw Rod

At just 21 years old, Miloe's take on fresh and innovative music is unlike anything we've ever heard. With the release of his brand new EP gaps and the music video for "renwin" featuring PawPaw Rod, we're even more in love with the artist. Featuring a chill sound and a dancey beat, this is one video everyone needs to watch. "There were probably four different attempts to finish this song, but the magic happened when PawPaw Rod came to town to see Prince's home and laid down his verse," Miloe shared with Sweety High. "I finished it in L.A. with Lars. It was a blast to record drums for this song. I think this song is me kinda accepting a breakup and other painful interpersonal experiences and embracing change. Find your own meaning though, lol."

2. Maggie Lindemann Drops Debut Album SUCKERPUNCH

We've been counting down the days until the release of Maggie Lindemann's debut album, and now that SUCKERPUNCH is finally here, we've been listening to it on repeat. From "we never even dated" to "i'm so lonely with you," each and every song is just as good as the last. "It's an unexpected punch, a blow you didn't see coming," Maggie explains in a press release. "When I was making this, I had those blows in my own life; when I listened to the album back from start to finish, I realized the entire thing was a sucker punch—for myself, for my fans—and I knew it had to be the title."

3. Country Star Dylan Schneider Shares 'Ain't Missin' You'

Even though country music isn't everyone's cup of tea, we think everyone should give Dylan Schneider a chance. We're loving the vibes of his latest single "Ain't Missin' You." If you're going through a breakup, this is a must-listen. "It had everything we wanted from a breakup anthem, and then when I posted it online, I couldn't believe the reaction," Schneider shared in a press release. "We immediately got back in the writing room and put everything we had into this song. I hope everyone loves the full version as much as I do."

4. Noah Cyrus Unveils First Studio Album, The Hardest Part

Noah Cyrus is so much more than just Miley Cyrus's little sister. She's a star in her own right, and with the release of her first studio album, The Hardest Part, we just know she has a successful career ahead of her. With songs like "I Just Want a Lover" and "Unfinished," this album is full of anthemic beats and lyrics that will punch you in the gut. In an Instagram post, Noah shared: "10 days until The Hardest Part.. my first studio album. i'm thinking a lot about my home in nashville.. the coyotes in the distance, my dad leading me through the fields where i used to run as a little girl, the horses, the deer in the grass, the sunsets and the songs. this is where i developed much of the sonic landscape of the record and found the majority of my inspiration.. i can't wait for you to hear it."

5. Carly Rose Revisits X Factor With 'Brokenhearted (10 Years Later)'

If you watched X Factor 10 years ago, you probably remember Carly Rose's iconic performance of "Brokenhearted." She was 13 back then, and now, at the age of 23, she's revisited the song in a truly beautiful way. "The song has such a different meaning for me now at 23 because I have experienced heartbreak," Carly told Sweety High. "At 13, I think the emotion I brought to the song was based on love and loss that I witnessed either from people around me or even movies and television shows. Now that I can relate to the song on a personal level, I think you can really hear the rawness in the cover and that is something I hope people will relate to."

6. GAYLE and blackbear Team Up for 'fmk'

GAYLE has been everyone's fave (ourselves included) ever since her release of "abcdefu," and our obsession with the star has only gotten stronger! She just teamed up with the one and only blackbear for "fmk," and it's amazing. The music video is unlike anything we've ever seen and features the pair as dolls moving through life. Any explanation we give won't do it justice, but trust us when we say you need to give it a watch. And that's not to mention the song itself! It's another banger and we think it might be just as big as "abcdefu."

7. FLETCHER Stuns Fans With New Album, Girl Of My Dreams

FLETCHER'S new album Girl Of My Dreams is finally here, and after giving it a listen, we can safely say that FLETCHER is the girl of our dreams. With bold messages, heartfelt lyrics and insane beats, we can't get over how incredible this album is. She's accomplished so much with this record, and we can't wait to see where her success takes her. "When my mom was younger she had a dream of a girl with long black hair riding on a horse, but she could never see what the girl's face looked like," FLETCHER shared in a press release. "She had a feeling that the girl might be the daughter she'd have one day, but I turned out to be nothing like that girl. To me it's a metaphor for growing up queer in a small conservative town, and feeling like I wasn't any of the things that people maybe thought or hoped I would be. As I explored my queerness later on, there were a whole series of people who I thought could be the girl of my dreams. But after so many years of looking outside myself, I finally came to the realization that the girl of my dreams is me."

8. Carly Rae Jepsen Drops New Song 'Talking To Yourself'

Carly Rae Jepsen is the perfect person to listen to when you're in a down mood because she can almost always lift your spirits! With the release of her new single, "Talking To Yourself," we just know we've got another banger on our hands. In an Instagram post, Carly explained: "'I was always invisible, consequences are difficult to face'… this is not a revenge song, but its not NOT a revenge song either. 😊 Could only write something like this with close friends so big thanks to the @captaincuts boys and @spidermelk. 5 days and counting until the So Nice tour kicks off. Hope you're ready to scream-sing this one with me (and a couple more surprises at the shows to hold you over until the album drops on Oct 21st!)"

9. BLACKPINK Release Sophomore Album Born Pink

K-pop group BLACKPINK is back and better than ever with the release of their sophomore album Born Pink. If you're a fan of the K-pop genre or just love girl groups, you absolutely need to give them a listen. Their success is unmatched and every single song on their new album will make you want to get up and dance! We definitely plan on seeing them on their world tour, which kicks off on Oct. 15.

10. Marcus Mumford Comes Out With First Solo Album, (self-titled)

Mumford and Sons was a folksy British rock band back in the day, and we were absolutely devastated when frontman Marcus Mumford left—but after he went solo, we couldn't stay mad for long. He just released his first-ever solo album, (self-titled), and wow, it's everything we could have hoped for and more. You can hear his classic folksy sound in each song, and we think it's the perfect fall sound. "I am overjoyed to announce that self-titled is officially out now," Marcus shared in an Instagram post. "The process of making it has been an honour from beginning to end; an unforgettable ride. Thank you to those of you listening and leaning in – it's now yours. And thank you to the incredible community of people I was lucky enough to work with, who helped bring this project to life. It means the world to me. MM xx"
