The Sweet Life—We Celebrated National Workout Buddy Day With Tone It Up!
At Sweety High, we're fortunate enough to get invited to a lot of private events in beauty, fashion, food and entertainment. And who better to take behind the scenes with us than our readers? The Sweet Life gives you VIP access to some of our favorite celebrations, even if you weren't on the list!
Mark your calendars—National Workout Buddy Day is March 1!
I had the pleasure of celebrating the holiday (coined by Women's Health mag) at the Tone It Up studio in Los Angeles' El Segundo area. To say I was nervous is an understatement. I wasn't sure how the event was going to go. Were all the girls going to be fit models? Should I go in full hair and makeup? Upon entering the studio, I found that yes, a lot of the girls were fit, but they looked so healthy. They were absolute goals, and I couldn't wait to get my sweat on with such an incredible group of women.
Before the workout began, we had the opportunity to choose an outfit by Onzie. I opted for a leopard biker shorts and sports bra combo, because why not? Then it was on to the workout…
Keep in mind—I consider myself a pretty healthy person. I love eating my greens and getting plenty of sleep. But, when it comes to working out, I need lots of motivation. I guess that's why this holiday is such a great idea! Liz Plosser (the Editor-in-Chief of Women's Health mag) told us that when we work out with a buddy, we're likely to work out 200 times harder.
And let me tell you… there's truth in that statement. Being surrounded by 50 girls was honestly all the motivation I needed. If they could do it, then so could I. The workout was led by Tone It Up founders, Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott, and they kicked our butts!
We started by getting our heart rates up, then moved onto jumps, resistance bands, planks, squats and more. It only lasted 30 minutes, but I was definitely out of breath by the time all was said and done.
Something that Katrina said really resonated with me:
"When we sweat, that's when we have our breakthrough."
And I couldn't agree more. After the workout, I felt motivated to take on the day and all it had in store for me. I was energized, lively and overall, happy!
I asked Katrina what she would tell her younger, teen self, and this is what she had to say:
"Accept yourself and constantly ingrain 'you are beautiful' in all the women around you, because there isn't enough of that. It's all about girl power."
So, this National Workout Buddy Day, call on someone. Whether it's your BFF, a girl you'd like to be friends with or someone in your math class, ask them to work out with you! Even if it's something as simple as taking a walk, as long as you get your sweat on, that's what it's all about.
