6 Subtle Ways to Nail Neon Makeup

The '80s are back, baby!

Everything from power sleeves to biker shorts to all things neon are on the docket for fall fashion. And you better believe the '80s inspo is seeping into beauty via sophisticated yet surprisingly subtle neon makeup. You might think looks this bright are too hard to pull off, but these makeup moments below will make you think again. Ahead, we've got six expertly curated ways to nail neon makeup without feeling like you're trying out to be on Euphoria.

Neon Eyeliner

Okay, we're obsessed. Neon liner is easily one of our fave looks right now, mainly because it makes a statement without taking the look overboard. You can play with all different colors and try anything from a small wing to a thick liner and wing combo!

Just the Corner

The corner eyes are the perfect way to play. We love the idea of adding your brightest shades in the corner of the eye around the tear duct for a super cool look. It's also great for makeup beginners, as it doesn't need crazy precision or technique. In fact, we prefer a bit more of a messy look here.

Graphic Splashes

Makeup is meant to be fun, so why don't you actually have some fun with it? We love these graphic lines Katie Jane Hughes created on the upper inner corner. It's simple to create, and really only requires a bright neon liquid liner.

Just a Dot

For the minimalist, how about just a dot? Even though it's so subtle, it makes a huge statement and can really make your eyes pop if you choose contrasting color. For brown eyes, try purple or green, and for blue/green eyes, go for hot pink or yellow!

Two-Toned

Pair a swipe of bold bright neon on top of a more subdued pastel color for amazing contrast. This look is so gorgeous and editorial but still feels effortless.

Full Shadow

Okay, maybe not the most subtle, but we still had to include because it's just too good not to. Hot pink is the perfect choice if you're going to take the plunge for a full neon shadow moment, but maybe lay off the liner so it feels less forced.
