NERIAH Shares the True Story Behind Her Empowering New Breakup Ballad, ‘FALLING 4 SOMEBODY’
Today, L.A. singer-songwriter NERIAH dropped her empowering new single, "FALLING 4 SOMEBODY," and ditching a toxic person has never been such a vibe.
The dreamy breakup anthem gives off the best '80s dance vibes as NERIAH belts out the song's message, calling out her terrible ex as she finally comes to the realization he was bad for her, and has finally gained the wisdom and the bravery to let him go. It's supremely danceable, with an upbeat sound that makes us feel more powerful just listening to it, and we can't get enough. It'll also be on NERIAH's third EP, No One Cries Forever, releasing March 17, making us feel like it'll be her best yet—and we got the chance to ask NERIAH all about it in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'FALLING 4 SOMEBODY'
NERIAH: "FALLING 4 SOMEBODY" is about being in a relationship where you know it's not going to work, but sometimes it's easier to stay than leave. It can be confusing to try to understand how someone can go from loving you so much to treating you bad.
I was going through a breakup and realized that I had to make a decision on whether I was going to move on from someone at the time. Sometimes, it's hard to recognize how toxic a relationship is while you're still in it. Once I left, I was able to look back and realize that it was not the right relationship for me. My ex really made me believe he was someone that he was not. It's always hard to realize the moment that someone you're in love with goes from sweet to someone you can't recognize.

What 'FALLING 4 SOMEBODY' Means
NERIAH: Don't stay in a relationship just because it's convenient. If you're thinking about leaving and you have reasons to, you should. There's nothing worth more than your happiness, and I hope listeners will be able to hear this song and know what they deserve. No settling!

NERIAH's Favorite Lyric
NERIAH: "I miss your hands down my body, but trust me, I'll never take you back." This line is my favorite because I think it's a perfect representation of missing the good parts of a relationship and trying to use it to convince yourself to stay.
